February 11, 201412 yr Queen Sirikit has IMO the best quality of care in the Pattaya area, and I would advise staying there. Second best would probably be Phyathai Sri Racha, if it is listed. The SS plan is NOT the same as the "30 baht" scheme nor the same as the scheme being provided to foreigners (in only some provinces, not all, BTW). The latter is essentially the "30 baht scheme" but at an annual charge. The SS schemes has considerable advantages over the "30 baht" scheme including choice of hospital (and, if you have chosen a private hospital, choice of doctor) and semi-private room if you need hospitalization. It is also well established whereas the scheme to allow foreigners to insure under the "30 baht" plan is new and unclear (particularly as regards eligibility of non-migrant workers); some provinces started it only to stop it and some have never offered it. In my view it is a last resort, only for those without SS and unable to get private insurance. In which case it isi certainly better than no insurance at all.
February 12, 201412 yr Author Good stuff thanks. Sounds to me like a private hospital might be better according to your post. What is the easiest way to determine which are govt and which are private?
February 12, 201412 yr No, I would not say a private hospital is better., certainly not upcountry. Public hospitals have private rooms too, just won't be covered under the "30 baht" plan but will be under SS.
February 16, 201412 yr Author So i can NOT pick my doctor, is that correct? Next question which PRIVATE hospitals belong to the SS system in the chonburi province area? Thirdly- Wouldn't private be better so one CAN pick their dr/specialist? 4th - anyone use ss for an emergency outside of their hospital? who ended up paying ss or you? February 16, 201412 yr " Public hospitals have private rooms too, just won't be covered under the "30 baht" plan but will be under SS." Social Security covers shared rooms. By paying the difference, you can get a private room. A lot of the specialist doctors at private hospitals also work at government hospitals. If you know what doctor you want at a government hospital, it's not that difficult to arrange appointments to see them. If a true emergency, I think you can be treated anywhere, and be reimbursed. It's been a while since I read the Act, so you should contact a SS office or your designated hospital for details.
February 18, 201412 yr Author thanks for all of that now about this If a true emergency, I think you can be treated anywhere, and be reimbursed. It's been a while since I read the Act, so you should contact a SS office or your designated hospital for details. i am curious how this actually panned out for those that did it had an emergency went outside their designated hospital and then...
