Char Rawn (a simple cup of hot tea).

Incidentally, my Thai lady stumped me again, last night (as she often does - despite her limited command of the English language).

She noted that many of her friends from different countries (Portugal, Spain, India etc) all refer to tea as "char", I remember my own old man used to sometimes say "make us a cup o' char" to my mum.

I told her that the name originated in India, Ceylon etc where they called it char.

"Why do you call it tea, then?" she enquired.

"How the fk can I possibly know that?" I laughed. (it was the only answer I could come up with).

Over to you guys.
