UK Passport Renewal & Tourist Visa

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I have applied for a new UK passport about a week ago to be delivered to an address where I am staying. I am currently on a tourist visa until March 10th and my passport expires on August 14th which means that the 6 month validity runs out on Feb 14th.

Two questions. Has anyone applied for a UK passport whilst in Thailand? I did not send back my old one as I read Thailand was one of the few places that didn't require you to. Is this right? Also worse case scenario and my passport doesn't arrive before my tourist visa expires would an immigration official give me any extension of stay on an old passport with less than six months on it? Getting panicky about the situation so any advice or information anyone could give please let me know :)

Keep your fingers crossed for a rapid return of the new PP

The tourist visa can be extended by 30 days on application at an immigration office at a cost of 1900 Bht.

NB

Make a note for yourself

NEVER travel on a PP with a limited life ! smile.png

You could have used your UK passport with less than six months validity to travel back to the UK, if that is your next destination.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

You can get an extension with less than 6 months validity.

The only problem with a UK passport that has less than 6 months left is that you cannot enter any nearby country (all of ASEAN). You can enter Thailand with less than 6 months validity.since you are from UK. For most western countries it is the same.

hi thanks for the advice. I'm looking to stay in Thailand. I kinda know travelling to uk wouldn't be a problem as I'm a uk citizen. Can you do a border run and be granted an extension of stay with less than six months on passport. Looking to get a job and work permit and non immigrant b eventually! :)

thanks. As I've asked in prev posts, if I needed to go on a "border run" to get an extension can this be done on less than six months. I heard somewhere they won't grant extensions with less than six months on p/pport in Thailand; is this true.

With less than six months left on a passport you could not do a border run to any bordering country because they require 6 months to enter their country.

If you apply for an extension that is greater than your passport validity it will only be issued for the length of your passport is valid and you will have to apply for a new extension when you get a new passport.

Many t countries recommend you renew your your passport when you only have 9 months remaining.

The UK will give you up to 9 months of time remaining on old passport by adding it it to your new passport.

Doing a border run is not an extension it is a new entry. But as I said you cannot do a border run with less than 6 months left.

They will do 30 day extension at immigration if you have more than 30 days left on your passport.

I begin to wonder if the OP actually has a tourist visa which could of course be extended for 30 days. If , however, he has a 30 day "visa exempt" entry only a 7 day "extension" would be available.

I wonder as the OP seems determined to "do a border run" which will be impossible with a passport with less than a 6 month validity.

Yes "OP" has a tourist visa, not determined to do a border run at all, in fact is rather not do one at all. Just need to know ins and outs for when I will have to.
