Ajaan
Sorry to spoil the party, but you'll notice that the OP hasn't returned to the topic since he posted it...in the meantime inspiring lots of opinionated responses, including various people arguing with each other...what do we call that again...? Oh yeah...troll. Safe to say at this point that the "incident" never really occurred. Hahaha, "double buggy with two babies in it"...!!

swissie
Op was pushing a "double-buggy" with 2 children. Tough ! On the other hand, the old ladies pushing heavy food-carts around all day long ? Never seen anyone of them going topless because it's hot. Cheers. Have you ever spent any time in isaan? Have. Many times since 2002. Must confess, have not seen any Topless-Ladies in public. Don't spread it around. Topless bar visitors in Pattaya may decide to head your way. Cheers. BKK Blues Brother
On reflection i would not change the outburst. A fat middle aged man is sat down on his butt and as a go at me for pushing my kids in a buggy. If i was back home he would have got sterner words! He's probally never even pushed a buggy or looked after a couple of kids on his own. As it goes he got of lightly.
wym
I thought you said he had "a go" at you for walking around in the middle of the city without a shirt. The right thing to do would have been to politely apologize, put your shirt back on and learn from the experience not to be so silly ever again. Robininbkk
That's a bit extreme isn't it? I've lived in many farang countries where people might look at you sideways for walking around shirtless in town, but certainly not "disgusting pig" yelling at you. https://www.google.com/search?q=Putin+shirtless&hl=en&pws=0&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=3gEBU6X6Labd0wGFuYGIDA&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1007&bih=635 It's the Thais that are more rigid IMO in this regard, and we need to respect their attitudes. But "in the wrong" much more for the verbal response than to the original "sin". And PLEASE tell me where you could get arrested, I know places where either sex can walk around fully naked and it isn't illegal. Monte Carlo May I add: Luxemburg. Yes it is a country, and very ''farang''
wym
Wow, hard to believe, being from New York: http://nowiknow.com/barely-legal/ Spain Germany, Vermont and Oregon allow nudity as a fundamental individual right and as long as you have protective footware in Ontario http://realneo.us/Vermont-Street-Culture http://www.guardian.co.uk/notesandqueries/query/0,5753,-25909,00.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_nudity Edited February 17, 2014 by wym
Thongkorn
If you have been here long enough to actually communicate in the language, you should have known better. First of all, I would have told you to put your shirt back on also if you were walking past my family. Then you were extremely rude to the older man who was suggesting you follow Thai laws and customs. However, I too have done as you did and let my temper go in the wrong situation. Just chalk it up to a lesson and move on. If you are not a tourist here, then don't act like one. Go away is not (by loy) in thai By loy is go away in Thai the same as ba. wym
Only "bei" means "go". When you're inside, "awk" means let's go out. The "luey" part is dismissive,
