Sonthiyarn

BANGKOK: -- People's Democratic Reform Committee rally leader Sonthiyarn Chhuenruethainaitham was released yesterday on Bt400,000 bail.

The bail was granted after the Criminal Court turned down a Department of Special Investigation (DSI) request to detain Sonthiyarn for 12 days to investigate charges of insurrection. The court, however, allowed the DSI to summon him for questioning.

Sonthiyarn, a former director of Tnews news agency, was in police custody since last Monday when he was arrested for violating the state of emergency decree. The Criminal Court on Thursday rejected a police request to extend the seven-day detention. Yesterday, he was released one day ahead of the seven-day limit on a plea from his lawyer.

Sonthiyarn thanked the court and said people could still depend on the judiciary.

After this, he would go back to work in the media, he said. However, he would consult with his lawyer whether he must report to the DSI next Saturday, according to its summons.

Department of Special Investigation director-general Tarit Pengdith said he respected the court's decision. It was also good that the bail condition stipulated Sonthiyarn must not instigate people, therefore he could no longer take part in the PDRC rally.

So in a way Tarit still sees this as a victory. Well, let him and Chalerm enjoy it. Good thing the guy is free as he did nothing wrong.

Can we therefore assume, Mr. Tarit, that you are currently planning to arrest Jatuporn for his numerous breaches of his bail conditions...?!

Edit to add: BTW, what has happened to Jatuporn, has he already relocated himself?

Everyone knew he would be release sooner or later, but lets see if he goes back to protest after the judge told him not to. Wonder who also paid his bail.

Just because his release condition was to not instigate people does not mean he had to quit the PDRC. It is not instigating when someonr stands before a crowd telling them about the lies the gov is handing out. Only if he goes up there and gets the people to do something bad would violate this condition

Such blatant bias and hypocrisy. Jatuporn has his people burn down and loot many parts of Bangkok and is never arrested. He even gets to be an MP! Disgusting.

As the Puppet Yingluck and Pheu Thai are about to find out that democracy also includes the law. The order bit of "law and order" that the Royal Thai Police is responsible for in a normal democracy is sadly lacking.

OK Sherlock let's have your spin on it.

"Jatuorn had his people burn down and loot many parts of Bangkok" ? Did he really?

See ? That wasn't too bad, was it Tarit ? You accepted the court's right to issue a ruling. Good for you. That must have been hard. And the release of this man hasn't caused the Earth to spin off its axis. If anything, he's likely going back to finish the meal he quietly started, before he was rudely interrupted.
