they have an office in the city police station near wat pra singh they are leasions police for forengners with issues you will know who they are as they have the same light browm uniforms identcal to city police but there logos are forieng police on the sholders

It is always interesting to see some of the Thai Visa members attacking members hidden behind their computers complaining about people trying to contribute something positive to the community by assisting tourist and expats that need help or advise in some manner. AMAZING.

I know there are about 15 members in their group working combined hours of in excess of 900 hours per month. (Giving their time free) They work on shifts and call outs to incidents on a daily basis both day and night and I believe they have about 9 different languages they can utilize when requested by the police.

They work under the direction of the Muang Police and work area specific and are NOT part of the tourist police volunteer group which have had issues in the past and they are completely separate group. It’s a new organization trying to make a difference in Chang Mai just attempting to help people and police with translations.

Within the group they have many members that speak fluent Thai, and there are some previous police members, ex military and local business people and other members who are just offering to help people in distress in some way. The formation of this group was made as the main police had a constant stream of foreigners requesting assistance at the police station.

I was told they are holding many applications of expats living in Chiang Mai people wishing to become part of this group however are receiving applications waiting for next course to start.

Everybody has strong opinion regarding this services offered these volunteers but we choose if we wish to use their help or assistance.

Sometimes I wonder as to how many of us expats have actually contributed of done something constructive to the society Thailand other than to post comments ?

The head of Pattaya TP is a convicted pimp. A senior member of the Phuket TP was busted for drug dealing and was accused of using his uniform to extort money from other farang. In Chiang Mai someone has painted his car to look like a police car another owns a bar offering girls and another sells sex tourism. Why would anyone respect these clowns?

Now nothing wrong with any of this at all......but its hard to see besides a professed language ability how the skills set and ethics relate to policing or assisting police.

This is not anti .... but certainly anti .... policing....and this is not the only star performer they have by any means.

Next, for the sake of argument, lets assume for a moment that EVERYONE associated with this group has helped other foreigners, be they tourists or locals, with translations when they have a problem and need police assistance. That's what they are about. We won't dicker about that one either.

I think it's probably safe to assume that since they put in regular hours, they have done this more than once or twice... helped total strangers when they need police assistance.

Question: When was the last time you helped a stranger when they needed police assistance? Not helped a friend. Not helped a stranger fix a flat tire or find their way. Helped them when they needed police assistance.

Maybe they are 'wannabe's.' Maybe they are <deleted>. Maybe they are panderers. Maybe baby-killers and mother-rapers. Maybe

Or maybe he's just got a better imagination than you and doesn't see everything as black or white or everyone as either completely good or bad. The guy at the desk at the station in town was very friendly and helpful when I went there recently. I know nothing else about him besides his name and that he was an Aussie, but I appreciated his help and I will assume he's a good guy until I know for myself otherwise.

Even if one or two of them are unsavoury characters there's still no need to tar them all with the same brush. I'm sure most of them are decent guys, whereas a fair few of the people making snide remarks here probably wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire.
