webfact
Chalerm threatens to crack down on protestersThe NationBANGKOK: -- Chalerm Yoobamrung, the director of the Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order, Monday threatened to crack down on rally sites where there are only a few protesters."From now on, I'll pounce on any rally site when there is small number of protesters," an angry Chalerm said.Chalerm, also caretaker labour minister, said he would act against protesters because Suthep Thaugsuban, secretary-general of the People's Democratic Reform Committee, had breached his promise to rally only at Asoke intersection, Lumpini park, Ratchaprasong intersection and Pathumwan Intersection.Chalerm said Suthep mobilised some 4,000 protesters to surround the Government House and that 500 of this number were security guards. He said he wasn't worried that the protesters had built concrete walls to block two gates of the Government House because the government could easily use a bulldozer to knock the walls down. But he said he found it unacceptable that Suthep had broken his promise by holding a rally at the Government House and would therefore crack down on the protesters whenever it was possible. He said the protesters, who were in small number, would be arrested for violating the emergency decree and obstructing traffic. -- The Nation 2014-02-

Popular Post bkkjames
The other day didn't he state the number of protesters totalled 4000? If they are all at Gov House today, nothing should stop Mr CMPO from cleaning up the rest of the sites in the CBD.

Popular Post p_brownstone
The man is ranting, totally lost it. "I'll pounce on any rally site when there is small number of protesters" That's exactly their plan - classic Guerrilla tactics, draw in the "enemy" with their superior force to "oppose" you then simply fade away and disappear into the local environment. Where this will end - with that Buffoon in charge - is anyones' guess. Patrick Edited February 17, 2014 by p_brownstone

Popular Post kkerry
There has been hardly anyone at the protest sites during the day for weeks (excluding t-shirt sellers). The few protesters left are off playing at Government House today so why not send a few thousand police to dismantle the protest sites now, in and out in a few hours.. Popular Post telecom
Classic. Suthep really knows how to push this guy's buttons. The more he blows up, the more people will push his buttons... For entertainments sake. If he 'pounces on protesters' he will only create a situation where many protesters will come back into BKK and retake the sites. The protesters are a lot more organized than this sad act of a police force. It will also pull out thousands of students again who like a good scrap with the law. Get the old tear gas and water cannons on the news again, this time it is official.... It's a 'CRACKDOWN'..... lol

Popular Post NongKhaiKid
On the BBC World News at 0800 Jonathan Head said the government's efforts so far were " more show than reality " then he tried to spice things up by saying ' hardliner ' Chalerm had been brought in, discreetly ignoring the fact that Chalerm has been CMPO Director since the off. He did then balance it out by saying Chalerm talks tough but the govt insists it does not want to to use force. Now for Act II, Overture and Beginners please and another bottle, or two, of Chateau Lao Khao '23 for K. Chalerm

The farmers are climbing over the barricades to get in to Yingluck and make her faces them and explain why she took all their rice and said she would give them money for it and then didn't. Maybe they are carrying farm tools for weapons. Chalerm could always put on his disguise that he was going to wear when he was going to arrest Suthep. I am beginning to think he is a bigger buffoon than Jutuporn. Not sure on the spelling but my spellchecker says stupor. Good description for both of them. 600 years ago they would have been highly prized as court jester's. Popular Post Scamper
Chalerm's buttons have most definitely been pushed. This is an enormous embarrassment for him, as he guaranteed since last week that Government House would be open today. And with Suthep's call for Chalerm personally to come out and oversee it has clearly rustled Chalerm's sense of pride, showing him to be a man with more bluster than bravado. Indeed, if Chalerm loses it, the army will step in. There is no way that an attack on the protesters is going to look anything other than terrible for this administration. And any violent move on them will only inspire stronger resistance in other parts of the city and country. In a way, it's a moot point, because Government House is not going to give Yingluck her administration back. She has no parliamentary backing and is stripped of legislative power. There is nothing for her to do there apart from playing Solitaire. But what this is about now is symbolism. To Chalerm, to Surapong, to Pheu Thai, to Thaksin - appearances are everything at this point. And without the appearance of power, they lose the optics and the spin. Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand Well looking in on it from the outside the same as most Farongs that are not involved in business with the government I would take the Army. the last time they had it they made some improvements in the constitution. Not as clear as they could be and with out teeth in some of the law breaking but over all not a bad constitution. Then they had an election. With the Democratically elected Police State Thailand will just continue to slide down hill.

And Chalerm, I too am very disappointed that you broke your promise to behead yourself if you failed to bring Thaksin back by the end of last year.
