Lost passport. Few days overstay until got new one.

Featured Replies

Hello

i lost my passport few days before my NON 'B' visa expired. days after i got a new passport valid 1 year. i know i have to go out of the country as soon as possible. pay the overstay. the question is , for example if i go to Laos by train, at the border , can they see in the sistem that i had a visa until few days ago and give me the stamp for leaving Thailand?

i do have a copy of the old passport with the las visa on it.

thanks a lot

Best is to go to immigration and have them sort it out before you go to the border. You will need a copy of the police report.

But normally, if you are on a visa entry and not on an extension of stay from immigration, they will take care of it at the border. That you have a copy of the old passport makes it easier. But do bring the police report and letter from embassy f you got one.

Since you lost your passport you need to go to an immigration office to sort out your previous entry and pay your overstay fine.. They will not do it at a border crossing.

You will need the police report for your lost passport and fill out a Lost or Stolen Passport Form (PDF http://immigration.go.th/nov2004/download/pdf/lostpassport.pdf ) .

They will only be able to do your entry/permit to stay stamp. If you had a valid visa it is lost with the passport.

thanks for the fast answer guys. i dont have a police report since i went directly to my embasy. in case of lost i can do that. in case of stolen i have to go to police. r u saying that i need to go anyway? and what letter from the embassy?

It is letter from embassy stating you got a new passport from them. Not all immigration offices ask for it.

You will need the police report for a lost passport. Immigration will insist on you having it. I am surprised that the embassy didn't want one.

yeah, the embassy ask only in case of stolen. so i should go to the police with overstay? i heard bad things about that

You have an empty passport with no stamps and will be asking for a police report for your lost passport. The police will not bother you about the overstay.

The embassies (maybe not all) usually give you a letter stating this is a replacement passport so you can show to officials such as immigration when sorting these things out.

Although you are being told that the police won't bother you by somebody probably more informed, I would personally go to immigration first and pay the overstays and see about getting an emergency 7-day extension stamp and I would tell them that you are concerned with going to the police station when you are on overstay. Not sure this is an option but again, I would personally try this route first unless somebody can say it is for sure not an option. I am just a firm believer in not putting yourself at risk (even slightly) of arrest in a less developed nation if you don't have to.

Immigration will do nothing if you don't have a police report.

He will be reporting a lost passport. How would the police even know that he was on overstay. They don't have access to immigration records.
