Politics Bhumjaithai Party Quits Thai Coalition, Slams PM Paetongtarn Over Cambodia Call
Picture courtesy of Thai Rath BANGKOK – The Bhumjaithai Party announced its withdrawal from the Thai government coalition, criticising Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra for damaging national honour through a phone call with Cambodia's Hun Sen. On 18th June 2025, Bhumjaithai Party declared its decision to exit the coalition, effective from 19th June, following controversies surrounding a phone conversation between Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Cambodia's Senate President, Hun Sen. The party claims the discussion negatively impacted Thailand’s sovereignty and territorial interests. In response, all Bhumjaithai ministers have submitted resignation letters to the Prime Minister, affirming their resignation as of 19th June 2025. The party has called upon Prime Minister Paetongtarn to take responsibility for the perceived national disgrace affecting Thailand’s honour, dignity, and military. The Bhumjaithai Party has pledged to support the Thai military and officials in upholding the sovereignty, territory, and interests of Thailand with full dedication. Middle East Trump Demands Iran’s "Unconditional Surrender" as Tensions Escalate Across Middle East
Live Updates: Trump Says ‘Nobody Knows’ His Plans on Iran President Trump said he “may” or “may not” order U.S. forces to attack Iran’s nuclear sites. Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, rejected his call for “unconditional surrender.” https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/06/18/world/israel-iran-trump Trump may be playing "Chicken" with Iran for the highest stakes possible. Who will swerve first, Trump or Khamenei? It all hangs on how badly Khamenei wants he and his people to become martyrs. Religion, rather than rationality, has been a huge factor in Iranian governmental decisions since the 1979 revolution brought Ruhollah Khomeini to power. It's why Khamenei may not back down. Trump and Netanyahu may also be betting heavily on an overthrow of the Islamist regime by the Iranian armed forces and ordinary people, but they could be disappointed. While there is a lot of opposition within Iran, it isn't well organized and lacks the means and strategy to bring down the current rulers. -
