Hi all,

I am leaving Thailand on March 23rd. I will finish teaching at my school on March 5th. If I cancel my work permit, do I still need to leave the country within 7 days? I am not getting a new wp as I am taking a job in Japan. What are the requirements for this situation. Thanks for your help.

When does your contract/job finish. That is the day you have to cancel your work permit and your permission to stay (unless you are on a visa entry and not on an extension of stay).

At immigraiton you cna get an extra 7 days to leave the coutry for 1,900 baht.

You could get an extra 15 (or 30 days if you are from a G7 country) by making a border run and leaving and re-entering Thailand.

My contract with the school ends at the end of March, but I will be leaving after classes end on March 5th to take care of personal business related to moving to a new country. My non-b visa expires in August. My next 90 day report is in April. Maybe I can have my school cancel my wp around the 18th so I don't have to leave the country until I leave for good.

You can ask school to not cancel your work permit until then. Many employers do that for employees leaving on friendly terms.

That's what they'd promised me when I had resigned my contract at my first school, giving them a six week notice.

I only needed two days, the coordinator had told me, it would be okay for a few weeks....

Unfortunately, it was canceled on same day. And I had to leave the country on same day. What people tell, you, doesn't necessarily mean that they really do it.

Spoken words don't mean much, especially when you resign from a school.

I'd rather go for a 30 day tourist visa, or the 7 day extension to buy you some time. -wai2.gif
