Non Imm 'O' + Visa Run Confusion!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've pored over so much information about Thai visas which have been conflicting so I am so <deleted> confused. Please help!

I have an Irish passport. I currently have a 3 Month Non-Immigrant 'O' visa which is expiring on March 1 2014. Usually I go abroad and apply for a Non-Imm 'O' again (bloody expensive every time) but was disorganised this time.

My dad works in Thailand but I am unable to get a 1 year visa because a) I am not the spouse b ) Even though I am his child, I am over 18 and therefore not 'dependent', so without payed work (I'm doing an internship) i cannot get the 1 year

I'm going to Poi Pet this week for a visa run.

1) I read that Non Immigrant 'O' s can be extended for 60/90 days if I re-enter before the expiry date. Is that true?

2) If it isn't, I will just get a stamp on re-entry. Over land with an Irish passport, I'm only given 15 days, instead of 30. Is that correct?

3) I can get the Cambodian visa at the border without any online document preparation right?

I hope my visa status is clear enough. If there is some weird loophole to getting my non-imm 'O' extended I will be in heaven.

Any advice - I'll take it!

Thanks and much love

1. No extension

2. Correct

3. Yes

If you have a single entry non-o visa all you can get at the border is 15 days. If you have a multiple entry visa you can get another 90 day entry up to to the expiration date (enter before date) of the visa.

You can only get 30 days by air.

Thanks guys

The visa stamped in my passport is a single entry visa. Then in thailand I got a multiple entry e-entry permit. Is an extension still possible in this case?

If so, do I need to bring all the relevant non imm o documents to the border with me?

Thanks guys

I am not sure what you have. If it is a single entry visa it only gives you one 90 day entry. A re-entry permit would only be valid up to the end of those 90 days.

Where did you get your visa?

You cannot get an extension at a border crossing.

It seems you will only get a 15 day entry at the border.

"Then in thailand I got a multiple entry e-entry permit."

As Ubonjoe said, a re-entry permit just keeps your latest permission to stay date alive. It does not add any days.

The only reason to get a multiple re-entry permit is if you plan on traveling out of country a lot.

Many people with no plans on traveling were getting a single re-entry permit in case of an emergency when they wouldn't have time to make it to an immigration office. Nowadays there are even fewer of them, since immigration has a desk at the airport again.

Hi guys.

I got my visa at the Thai consulate in Ho Chi Minh City.

I''m attaching blurry but ok pictures of my

A) visa which as you can see says single on it and was stamped 'used' when I entered. I'm never permitted a multiple entry non Imm 'o' because I'm not a spouse and I'm not under 18. The two times I've applied for this type of visa, The Thai embassy and consulate in KL and Saigon respectively could only offer me a single entry visa

B ) a few days after arriving on my Ho Chi Minh non Imm , I went to lad phrao and got a multiple entry re-entry permit. I needed to travel.

So I guess ubonjoe is right, I'm not permitted a visa extension on rentry at the Cambodian border. The 'used' stamp makes that clear I think.

Thanks guys. I'll just settle with 15 days, then plan a trip to my friends and the consulate in Saigon to get a shitty expensive three month non o + multiple entry permit again :/

You could consider trying to obtain an ED visa. You would need to sighn up with a school who in turn would provide all the necessary paperwork.

You would need to commit to learning Thai and attend the classes on a regular basis.

Maybe worth a thought !smile.png
