February 24, 201412 yr Popular Post Wifes brother is staying with us for few weeks while building a shed. My daughters birthday today. We plan to eat out at her favourite restaurant for dinner. I ask if brother is coming. She says...."he cannot use a knife and fork properly and it is a nice restaurant, so he can stay home" She was serious.....he did not join us.....
February 24, 201412 yr It's not hard to eat with a knife and fork - is it? Teach the poor guy. I just built a shed if you want any tips. Was one of my daughter's birthday last week and another one's in 2 days - happy times and good food. S&P birthday cake is much better than Svensen IMHO.
February 24, 201412 yr Author No way...ice cream cake way better. Had the s and p cakes at other kids parties and never finish the plate let alone go back for seconds....ice cream cake, always go back...and the next night if any left over. We have another one in couple days, 4 days apart.

February 24, 201412 yr Never really thought about it before, but now you mention it, I cant think of one Restaurant we have used in our area where a knife is supplied, they always give fork & Spoon, any meat dish the meat is usually pre sliced/cut etc. Anyway, happy birthday to your daughter.
February 24, 201412 yr Even relatively wealthy Thais don't use a fork and knife "properly" by western standards anyway. But true country folk eat mostly sitting in a circle on the floor using mostly their hands. Try an authentic Ethiopian eating experience sometime. . .
February 24, 201412 yr they always give fork & Spoon That's considered the proper and polite way for dinning in Thailand
February 25, 201412 yr they always give fork & Spoon That's considered the proper and polite way for dinning in Thailand I thought Thais always eat pizza with a knife and fork. Edited February 25, 201412 yr by rak sa_ngop

February 25, 201412 yr Some of my bils seem to self remove from invitations like this, if they have lao khao at home, definitely

My wife can eat a pork leg with spoon and fork....that is difficult...... yes teach that poor guy :-) Need to keep it relaxed so he doesn't feel like an idiot....
February 25, 201412 yr Author ^...I'll get my 8yo to teach him then. Best start with plastic ones first.
February 25, 201412 yr Author In fact....I will use it as an excuse for all the family members in the future.
February 25, 201412 yr Hahaha, reminds me of my younger siblings who struggle with their knives and forks. Too much Thai food and not enough farang food. One was struggling to cut a sausage with a steak knife.. poor kid.
February 25, 201412 yr They don't know how to use a table also ! And use a separate cup. I agree, teach the poor guy. Chopsticks are hard. I use these... Edited February 25, 201412 yr by krisb
February 27, 201412 yr Funny! My girl had to ask how to eat when i took her out for a steak dinner. On the other side, i'm not very skilled with the chopsticks, so i guess I can relate..
February 27, 201412 yr I know quite a lot of Thais that don`t feel comfortable eating in Western style restaurants, including some of my wife`s family. Sometimes it`s simply because they don`t enjoy the food or the way it`s served. Similar to how we all have our preferences when eating out at restaurants. Some of us may not like Indian or Chinese for example. Perhaps the OP could choose a restaurant that they all like? A compromise so that everyone`s happy all round.
February 28, 201412 yr Japanese always popular, especially the buffet-style. MK and Korean moo-ka-taht as well.
