Somchai sees PM's willingness to talk to Suthep as a good sign
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Election Commissioner Somchai Srisuthiyakorn Friday on Friday said he regards caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's expression of willingness to hold talks with protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban as a good sign.

But he said greater efforts would need to be made in finding a format for the talks that is acceptable to both sides.

Suthep, the secretary-general for the People's Democratic Reform Committee, has challenged Yingluck to one-on-one talks but Yingluck replied that any such talk must be based on constitutional rules.

Somchai said he believed that there would be efforts to expand the scope of the talks by inviting more people to become involved and discuss a framework for the negotiations.

However, Somchai pointed out that both sides must prove their sincerity for holding talks by telling their supporters to stop using violence.

"They must stop their sides from causing violence but so far there is no such a sign," Somchai said.

He said he believed that violence was caused by certain groups who did not want to see negotiations.

“Many in Thailand have come to accept the feeling of not knowing where they are going. And have trained themselves to love it. Because it is only when we are suspended in mid-air with no landing in sight, that we force our wings to unravel and begin our flight. And as we fly, we still may not know where we are going to. But the miracle is in the unfolding of the wings. You may not know where you're going, but you know that so long as you spread your wings, the winds will carry you.”

PM Yingluck rejects face-to-face talks with protest leader Suthep http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/707465-pm-yingluck-rejects-face-to-face-talks-with-protest-leader-suthep/

Was wondering how she plans to talk with him, from behind his back or on facebook ?

Likely meant that she would send representatives to meet Suthep ...

Then she get his questions and submit in writing ...

Either that or just delegate to some one else to attend, that way if there is any problem or it doesn't work, she can say it isn't her fault ... As she wasn't even there

Thai Election Commission hails govt, anti-govt negotiations to end political impasse
By Digital Content

BANGKOK, Feb 28 – Thailand's Election Commission (EC) today welcomed a move for dialogue between the two main conflicting parties in Thailand’s four-month political impasse.

Election Commission chairman Supachai Somcharoen called on caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban to avoid setting preconditions – a major factor that could jeopardise negotiations.

EC member Somchai Srisuthiyakorn said both sides should discourage their supporters from violent activities and to pave the way for talks.

It’s not unusual that the two sides set conditions and framework prior to a dialogue, he said, adding that they would possibly assign higher-level persons to join the second round of talks next week.

“I have their names but it won’t be disclosed until everything is clear,” he said.

Mr Somchai added that the EC was ready for new elections in the five provinces of Petchabun, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkram, Petchaburi and Rayong on Sunday.

Balloting results will not be announced until elections are completed nationwide, he said.

The EC is seeking the Constitution Court’s ruling on whether the government would have to issue a royal decree to call for new elections in 28 pending constituencies in eight southern provinces, which were disrupted by opponents during the Feb 2 general election.

Akanat Promphan, spokesman of the anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), insisted the negotiation between Ms Yingluck and Mr Suthep must be held on a one-on-one basis before the public.

He said the premier was insincere in setting a condition that the PDRC rallies must be called off before a dialogue, to be participated by many people, is held.

He said Ms Yingluck was not acting for the national interest but for her own agenda, adding that Mr Suthep did not ask her to resign before the negotiation but only wanted it to be an open session. (MCOT online news)

Stop the bullahit prooaganda. Yingluk is a strong, educated leader of a very diverse nation. She can stand up and intellectually beat the shit out of Suthep. Mr Suthep thought he could intimidate Yingluk. Well, She is still standing and in a strong position. Every word that Suthep says makes him look like a male chauvinistic (sp?) pig. He will nwver get his 2 yr peoples govt!!

Somchai ,you look like and idiot and every time you open you mouth you prove it to be true. Just a little puppet. You people pick and choose as to when you will comply with the very democracy that you usurp on a daily basis. Democracy within the administration is non existent owing to the tiers of corruption you have installed . Democracy under your party has left the building, so please stop making such quotes.

Somchai had one task only - to organize and hold elections - he and his EC have failed miserably and they should be replaced by people who can do the job!

But there is of course no surprise if one recalls how this EC came into being.

And why should the PM talk to the gangster Suthep? Does the corruptest politician from the south want to talk about government corruption again?

He is wanted with arrest warrant and has no right to demand anything. He has nothing but rhetoric and people - even his own judging by the numbers - are tired of listening to his primitive rants!

He can occupy his Bangkok streets as long as he likes - the rest of Thailand does not give a hoot! His "guards" are already spreading like a cancer taking over shopping centers and parks - starts to feel like the early 1930's in Germany in Bangkok. I wonder when the "educated" Bangkok people will wake up and realize whats going on.

If the kangaroo court sides with the protestors and makes Thailand the laughing stock of the world - great - hold them responsible for whatever happens.

If government work is obstructed in Bangkok move it somewhere else - there is nothing in the constitution that says the government and government agencies have to work from Bangkok.

Somchai and his EC should organize the rest of the elections - if they can't they should be fired and replaced asap - they have failed the Thai people miserably!

come on, lets be honest here, yl will never talk to suthep one on one because sh is incapable of being able to discuss anything without someone telling her what to say, just look at the interview she did with the arab station. She lacks the brain power to be ablre to think for herself and answer any questions, she is in all sense of the words, "dumb as dog sh*t".She will never let it be televised either as she does not want the thai people to know just how stupid she really is, even her facebook comments are done by others so she doesnt stick her foot in her mouth.

She only ever offered the talks because she was sure suthep would say no, now she has to make excuses, pathetic.

If only you could prove what you say. You'd be a genius. Instead, nothing.

DirtboxFarmer... Suthep has won this whole debacle hands down... Thaksin will NEVER be back and his clan are finished... and the Army are getting ready...

If the army stage a coup like they've done in the past, most likely the reds will come to bkk and burn the city again. They shud've let YL run its course as PM, find her faults, and when its time for election, let the people choose. Also come up with policies to win people's heart instead of crying vote buying. TS came up with cheap healthcare, YS came up with rice scheme. Even if the rice scheme wasnt successful, there was good intention, but not implemented by her or her beuarocrats. The point is they came up with something, instead of waiting for the army to hand over power.

A source we are not allowed to quote from, a newspaper , one should read for them self states (not verbatim statement) Yingluck stated she upheld the rules and regulations, so I need talks within a legal and constitutional framework.

If you disagree with the framework & obstruct elections, if you do not respect the rules , How can we talk?

Suthep has clearly been ordered by his masters, to calm down his rhetoric as he has backtracked on his promise of "no talks" and has left four protest sites and apologized to the people of Bangkok.

Finally many are realizing he overplayed his hand, now to much violence has broken out and if not stopped now, could cause great damage to Thailand!

Cheers
