How to make my website compliant for Google AdSense – anyone have any experience on this?

Recommended Posts

As the title implies, I am looking to make my website ‘acceptable’ to take Google AdSense ads.

The obvious fix was the removal of ‘Adult content’, which I have now done, but I still get the message (in Thai!!!) that my website is not acceptable because of ‘content’.

Although The Google AdSense Help site provides a great amount of detail on what is not allowed, I confess I am very confused, mainly due to the technical jargon they use.

So other than doing it by trial and error – i.e. removing something that may be causing the problem and then resubmitting my application, and then keep doing this until it is accepted, I don’t know how to fix this.

So I was just wondering if there are any experts out there who may be able to advise me or point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Mobi

Maybe still some meta word or description that have banned words?

How long ago did you remove it, since maybe the old content is still in Google's cache?

Search on the net for sites that can screen your site. Maybe they come up with something.

Forget Google Adsense......no money in it unless you have TONS of traffic! Go to Commission Junction, ClickBank, or ShareASale, and start selling products on commission.....way more profitable than Google Adsense!

Also, unless you really love your URL, I would just get a new one.....It's hard to get back on Google's good side once you have been flagged (and it takes forever).

If you wan't, you can check out how I have my sites set up using the 3 above-mentioned commission sites.

Good luck! Internet marketing is a never-ending battle.....but fun!

Hi Darkside --

No easy answers to your question, but Google has gotten better about giving more specific advice re fixing websites, landing pages, ads, or whatever else is triggering problems for you.

Unlike one of the other people who replied, I do think Adwords is worth the hassle. Google has come off their original idea of almost totally automating Adwords, and, when it works, IMO, it's probably one of the most cost effective ways to advertise. Think about it. Even though Google is a bit heavy handed about it, you end up only paying for clicks from people who are (at least theoretically) actually interested in what you're selling. No other conventional advertising offers that kind of value.

Dealing with Adwords can sometimes by *very* frustrating, but I've been helping a doctor friend of mine in the US fight this fight for almost 5 years, and we've gotten to the point where we can usually get things fixed in a couple of days. There is help from Google available. It's just not easy to find.

If you'd like more specific assistance, please send me a PM.

Good luck --

Ahhh.. you want an expert to give you their years of study, practice, trial and error, advice for free !!!

Isn't that what this sort of forum is about? Sharing knowledge and expertise does not always have to have a price tag.

Yes, if the OP's intent was to lure someone into spending hours analyzing his web content and providing solutions, then that would justify your rebuke but he merely asked for simple guidance on a often hard to understand issue; to me the essence of this forum.

If the search engines are still seeing Adult Content in your pages, the probable reason is that the Robots that follow the pages hasn't updated. In a HTML page there is usually a line that reads <META NAME="robots" CONTENT="index follow"> That will usually automatically, update the search engines every 2 weeks. If this line isn't in there, it can take the search engines up to 3 months to re-snapshot your pages and update.

Google's webmaster tools and help, do help a lot. thumbsup.gif
Use Google-serach to see what experience and solutions others have.
If you have “Adult Content” you may not be accepted; if you had it may take some time before GoogleBot revisit your site and update content from all pages; old archieve/chache may block you. A good advise is to get a webmaster ID for site indexing, and place a sitemap file in “http root”, which can be just a simple text file with full URL's (see Google Webmaster Tools) – that will help GoogBot to crawl your site.

Wisk you good luck with your project...smile.png

To OP:

Presume you are fully aware of the important so-called MetaTags – if not, that will be an urgent issue for you.

Some to care about besides <title> <keywords> and <description> are:

<meta name="RATING" content="GENERAL">
<meta name="DISTRIBUTION" content="GLOBAL">
<meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache">
<meta http-equiv="Cache-Control" content="no-store">
<meta name="ROBOTS" content="all,index,follow">
<meta name="REVISIT-AFTER" content="7">

Thank you so much for all the useful replies, it is very much appreciated.

I'm pretty sure that the site is totally clean of adult content.

I really don't want to start all over as it has taken me 4 years to get where I am and build up my regular followers.

The purpose of the website was never to make money, but someone recently suggested to me that I give Google AdSense a try, and as I have now hit upon some hard times, I thought it was worth a go.

I am not sure, but I think the main problem may be something to do with my efforts sell my novels. There is a 'click' link on the right hand bar which leads readers to Amazon, where they can buy my novels. Obviously I ask readers to buy my books, and I think this may be the problem, but not having any previous experience of this, and not really understanding Google's guideline jargon, I can only guess.

If I have to remove the Amazon link it may not be worth proceeding with Google, I would have to think about whether it is worth the effort, as the traffic to my site is still very small in the grand scheme of things and I may not make much from Google ads, even if I get accepted.

There is one easy answer that google always repeats:

WOULD YOU LET YOUR KIDS LOOK AT YOUR WEBSITE

Apart from this anything related to drug and casino is illegal.

Very easy to be compliant actually.

Yes, no problem, it is completely clean.

Not really, just looking a for a bit of friendly advice from someone who may know a bit more than I do.

That is what I have been doing on Thai Visa for the past 8 years - giving the benefit of my advice and help to those who I think may need it.

To be honest, your post makes me very sad, for all manner of reasons, but I doubt you would understand.

You're talking about Adwords, a way to drive targeted traffic to your website. The OP is talking about Adsense, a way to get paid after people are already on his site. I agree with you that Adwords works...it's just a matter of knowing your conversion rates and bidding accordingly. Again, though, that is not what the OP is asking about.

My advice was to avoid Adsense--there are way better ways to make money (especially for low-traffic sites).

Mobi,

Your efforts to sell your novel and your Amazon link are definitely NOT causing the problem--most websites are set up to sell things and Google has no problem with that. In fact, that's exactly how they make their money! They NEED you to do that!

I use Amazon links. I sell software. I give away free e-books. ....standard stuff that everyone does, and I was accepted for Adsense. Your problem is elsewhere.

In addition to that, like I said before, you will make very little money (pennies per month) using Adsense. Not to be a downer, but the truth is that unless you have many thousands of visitors per month Adsense will not be worth your time.

Best of luck!

Ryan

Sorry about the Adwords/Adsense mixup. My bad. Reading too fast. Thanks for pointing it out.

I did visit your site, though, Darkside, and there are a lot of references to alcoholism, sex, orgies, lust, drugs, mysogyny, etc. My guess is that, taken all together, it's a bit strong for Google.

Keep digging on the relevant Google sites, though. If it's like Adwords, you'll eventually find a help or contact link, where you can write to or call a live person and get back a reasonably intelligent answer. I don't think the problem is your Amazon link, but I might be wrong.

If you find out, maybe post the answer here? It might be helpful for some of the other people on this site. And me, too.

Good luck.

Some replies have suggested you dump your domain and start witha new one.

This will be fatal for any rankings you currently have! Terrible advise guys.

I have seen this happen with a customer of mine who had multiple domain extensions. He neglected to renew the .com. Lost it to some hijackers how wanted to sell it back to him for 10 k. He still had the same domain, but as a .com.au

Net result. $5000 per month in sales online to zero . Still recovering after 2 years.

Hey Darkside

I too have a website about Thailand www.luxury-thailand-travel.com and have google adsense on all my family friendly pages but I also have some adult content on my site too where I don't place any adsense at all. I have no problem with google whatsoever. I have had a look at your website and think that you should not have a problem either. But what you really need to do is make your pages a lot shorter (spit them up and give them good headers) You will do a lot better in terms of visitors and the pages won't become boring with too much content on each page. By the time I'm not nearly half way I switch off. You need to look into that. You will see from my site that I write new articles on each and every particular subject one page at a time. Don't put lots of articles on one page. They are too long for readers to stay focused. You can contact me via my site if you need more advice. From a guy who gets way more visitors than you do.

Otherwise don't stop what you are doing. It all takes time. Grahame

You have a very good website and it has given me much food for thought.

It would take some time to re-design my blog so that the bulk of the content is on 'click-thru' pages. Not totally beyond my primitive capabilities, but I will need to plan it properly. I can see it is the right way to go,as by doing this, even my old blog articles can still be be easily found.

I am not sure whether I will bother to persevere with Google Adsense, as even the guy who first suggested it to me now concedes that my low volume of traffic means that it is hardly worth the effort.

But thanks anyway. If it's OK with you I will put a link to your website on my blog - it is one of the best I have seen about Thailand - very well done!

Thanks. No way I would do this. It has taken me to long to get my blog established in the first place.

The thing I can never quite work out is just how these pathetic, internet freaks derive perverse pleasure by anonymously writing hurtful and/or insulting comments on a thread as innocuous as this one?

I doubt whether 99% of these sad people would dare to say such things to your face.

Ah well, such is life, I guess.

The price we all pay for technological progress.
