Army chief backs talks between govt and protesters

PNPOL570301001000301_01032014_125228.jpg

BANGKOK, 1 March 2014 (NNT) – Army Chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha has voiced his strong support for talks between all sides involved in the current political deadlock that has gripped the country for the past 8 years.

If the talk between the government and the protesters were to take place, it should be carried out under the country’s legal framework and that all sides must get involved in the process to seek peaceful solutions to the crisis,Gen Prayuth said.

He also dismissed rumors of his becoming a neutral prime minister, saying it is a far-fetched idea for one to be thinking about.

As for a coup d’etat, the army chief said he could not promise anything; however, he affirmed that the military would try its best to avoid it.

He also condemned the use of M79 grenades in a spate of violent incidents, warning the perpetrators that they will definitely face the music.

Oh general, and don't forget about the traitors who are planning to secede and form their own republic while raising a 600,000 strong 'tactically trained' militia.

Unlike many others, Prayuth has though about the consequences of the Suthep's 'plan' . He knows very well that this is not a 2006 situation and understands that simplistic answers to complex questions are not a solution or even a quick-fix.

CIC Gen Prayuth has sent the right message , he's continued stance on the political situation is a responsible one, something that both major political parties are lacking, the main area of concern is these grenade attacks , there seems to be an over abundance of them to toss around, as for the rumours of a coup , General Prayuth knows full well that to watch the country fall into civil war would be a dereliction of duty , others would have made the call for military control.clap2.gif

Gerry, I think those pesky PINKS, as the RED is far fading, would be hard pressed to get 600 UNPAID volunteers

We are not privy to whatever comments may have been made behind closed doors nor who might and may still be involved concerning the current situation in Thailand. However there at last seems to be some easing of tension and let us hope a step forward to a somewhat less corrupt government.

The interesting point will be to see just how the Red Shirt faction along with its associated allies might actually react to the withdrawal and the partial cessation of the majority of the P.R.D.C. activities.

A claim of victory from and faction would indeed be a move calculated to inflame the situation again, the Thai people have tasted what their power can do and they will not stay a silent majority again if a resurgence of Shinwatra power were to happen.

This moment in time is going to be the make or break time for all parties but more importantly make or break for Thailand and its peoples.

Those peoples include my children and grandchildren as is the situation with a good many other foreigners who post on this board too.

The future belongs to our children, it is also our future albeit in a limited time we and they need the current generation to hand them a secure less corrupt future where the politicians are the public's servants not the other way around.

Let us hope that common sense and honesty will prevail. If not all will be lost

If Prayoth thought a coup could work it would have happened already. He knows it won't because the reds aren't going to roll over and play dead this time around. Last time they played dead, in 2010, they ended up dead about a hundred of them. This time if the army rolls tanks they're going to face armed resistance, which the generals have little stomach for. First, there'll be a horizontal split in the army and then maybe the country.

As for the courts doing dirty, I seriously doubt it this time. The kangaroos need the generals covering their backs before issuing edicts like "You can't be PM because last night we saw you cooking on TV".

So, it might all actually end well. Yingluck and PTP will stay in power but definitely chastened so no more amnesty-like bills to be shoved down people's throats, Thailand will pick itself and get back to its merry ways, and, hopefully, Suthep will die of a heart attack as he blows through his new-found riches in Poseidon's luxury suite.

Let's pretend that i said i hope Thaksin, Yingluck, Jatuporn, Nattawhut, Tarit and Chalerm all died, you would have every right to report me. I would expect to have a posting holiday. I haven't reported you because i think you are simply misguided.

The questions to be asked are:

What can come from the talks. One side wants to so change the system that it keeps power in the hands of a minority - we know who make up that. Which means that they won't accept a democratic system based upon one man one vote. Will the other side acquiesce?

How to make the independent agencies and courts unbiassed and independent - and how long will it take?

Will corruption reduce if the current government is toppled? Or might the looting even increase given that events have shown that a future hold power may be less than secure - so 'make hay while the sun shines'?

At least now they are talking about actually talking, which is a step in the right direction.

Some may knock this, but considering how similar events have transpired in the Ukraine, I think the authorities have handled this situation extremely well. Hopefully this dispute will be resolved soon.

What I don't understand about the Yellow side of the show is the catch-22 situation they're putting themselves in.

They a trying to usurp power by claiming that they will eliminate corruption when in office, but the reason they want to be in power is to be able to continue on with their corrupt practises of the past. Go figure?!

The above quote by the General is almost a word for word replica of Yinglucks' response to Sutheps' idiotic conditional televised debate proposal.

It would appear that the military and the government are now preaching from the same book which can only mean the end of the illegal, anti-democratic insurrection is nigh

I was going to point to that also, it seems there will be a just Democratic solution to the problem like should have been attempted before polarizing the country to the verge of violence and the General knows what will result from a "judicial coup" and the picture is not a pleasant one!

Seems at long last cooler heads will prevail, Negotiation is the only way out of the mess Suthep has made!

Cheers

You said " The mess Suthep has made" utterly ridiculous the mess was created by non transparency within government. This one sided post from you does not cover the original cause of the mess and well you should know.

I wish it was not the case and we had zero corruption. or as near as you can get.

Prayuth and Suthep ALREADY KNOW that Yingluck will be found guilty for her involvement and lack of oversight on the rice pledging..... she is GONE already.

So both Suthep and Prayuth can back off the protests...

Bye bye Yinkbadluck!!!

And Thaksin knows this too. Hence the reason he's trying to block the investigation proceeding and discredit the investigators, judiciary and courts. He'll no doubt already have plans on which will be the next prime puppet. Inviting the UN is a time buying exercise and might help forestall losing the caretaker role shortly. A coup would do nicely now as he could divert all blame on that and appeal to the UN and international community.

You seem to forget Thaksin has been out of the country for years and the rightfully elected PM is Yingluck Shinawatra, she can either be impeached or voted out of office. There has to be a reason other then what the present courts personal backers demand.

She has to be charged and then proven guilty in a proper court of law, which the constitutional court is not!

The new government must deal with the failed, EC, NACC and the Court if they would have have properly applied the law, in a neutral arena this problem need not have caused all the division that is now prevalent in the country. These agencies personnel need to be shown the door and people of high moral integrity that are. knowledgeable in the laws that govern Thailand to give Thai's faith in their government again!

Cheers

Should be able to raise 600 from the pro red TV posters. Silly me...they have all evaporated and come back under new names. Oh well..should be able to raise 60 pro red posters...assuming they can all still walk and are getting their pensions from overseas to support their lifestyle. Bring back the glory days of the Berlin Wall and Joe Stalin eh boys? Or for the younger generation of Red,s Pol Pot and all the good things he did for Cambodia....ahhh they were the days!!!!!

HIs job is almost done? What job was that? To lead an ever dwindling, paid for mob of southerners into the streets of Bangkok to attempt to destroy the economy of Thailand from major corporations down to street vendors (who live hand to mouth), enable unauthorised "guards" to man handle, harass and kidnap innocent citizens, deny the public access to public spaces, screw up the cities already troubled traffic, destroy Thailands' international reputation as the Land of Smiles and the world's greatest tourist destination, start the chain of events that would lead to the deaths of 4 innocent children and at least 2 police officers (and nearly blow the legs of another), assault innocent Thais trying to exercise their democratic right to vote, provide a revenue stream for the ridiculous fat slob Michael Yon, to lead a circus of clowns to continuously blow those bloody annoying whistles and last but not least to line his own pockets with "donations"?

Perhaps his job was to open the eyes of the Thai population to the REAL world.Ii think he has done that admirably. Farmers standing up to the government, the average Thai seeing through the bullshit that has been handed to them for decades. Yep he has done his job. Now someone else will take over - but I bet it won't be a Shin.

Now that the eyes of the Thai population have been opened to the real world, do you think the Democrats will dare to contest an election? And if they do actually have the balls to front up and unsurprisingly lose again I guess the next question is once they've lost what will their new an acronym and shirt colour be for their next mini mob in the street adventure?

We will have to wait and see. You speculate the Dems will contest an election. Who knows what will happen? Maybe a third party will enter the foray. I sincerely hope so.

Suthep and the Democrats where members of the house, the fight should have been fought there as per the constitution, not on the streets of Bangkok. Suthep is the one that took it there!

Cheers

So you admit the wrongs hooooray, Problem opposition were not given objection time, by biased chairman, bills rushed through in the early hours, and the P.M. s refusal to debate as should be the norm.

Whenever was there PM question time,??? whenever was she present to answer. ???

Sorry state of affairs. opposition like any did object to many bills, but most were pushed through.--then the scandals started to show---hence the protests.

I am trying to give a clear picture but you like the government steamroller on--then start to hit walls.

Yingluck can sit in Dubai and Suthep and the others can sit in Thailand and they can have a video conference clap2.gif.pagespeed.ce.z5euFoXm0J.gif alt=clap2.gif width=31 height=25>

Good idea, Yingluck can sit in the PM residence and suthep and the other anarchists can sit in jail and they can have a video conference thumbsup.gif
