Pattaya Beach Boom Danger

Two boys aged 6 and 15 sustained minor injuries over the weekend and spent time in Hospital, the parents blame unsecure Beach Booms which are supposed to protect swimmers from boats.

Complaints were made to Pattaya City Hall concerning the newly installed booms which are thought to have cost over 10 Million Baht. They were installed on Pattaya Beach, Jomtien Beach and Wongamat Beach to protect those who wish to swim in the sea without fear of being run over by boats.

Swimmers can stand on the booms and it is thought that a high wave pushed the two young victims off the boom and into the shallow water causing minor injuries, over the weekend.

May be someone can explain the retarded parents that the booms are there to protect from boats , NOT for kids to run on

And face all those blank looks? Far too frustrating!

Sure, the city will get refund, the supplier will be happy to give the 10m baht back!! The kick backs have already been spent!

personally I like them, a big improvement and if people dont have the coordination to use them they should just not use them

Were the children running on the booms? Of course not, you just made that up in order to justify your referring to the parents as retards. It seems from the report that they may be designed for them to be safely stood on.

Did you actually think before you spoke?blink.png

Did you really just say it was designed to stand on for safety? You mean when the speed boat is coming your way the safest place is to stand on the boom?blink.png

Did you really never see one or read in OP? those booms were installed to create safe area for people to swim in, it was not designed for people to walk on, stand on or dance onw00t.gif

So the 'victims' fell off a floating boom into shallow water. What's wrong with that? They're at the seaside.

They should not need them, if boats were operated where the person at the helm had sufficient training to know that they had to stay outside of certain marker buoys placed about 100m out from the beach and there were clear signs on the beach warning swimmers not to swim past the buoys then there would be no need for them floating barriers.

But then this is Pattaya where the locals can not even get there head round the use of a bus stop...

If whistling.gif if whistling.gif if whistling.gif But whistling.gif

3 ifs and a but can make me a lottery winner every day

so sad that some people cant use their tiny brain to realize when something is dangerous.

I am not just referring to Thai's, its a world wide problem

Won't go into the sensible supervision of young children in and around water....

Maybe if the booms/floats/buoys were triangular and were a little higher they would not be seen as water toys and be a more visual element for the speed boats, jet skis and assorted other water craft that ignore the safe swimming area.

I know logic and decision making do not always go hand in hand.

they are much more visible then the older ones and many tourists enjoy sitting, walking and sun bathing on them, I don't see the problem

I would have assumed that they were meant to be more than marking out safe swimming zones and designed to also be actual barriers similar to barriers on some left side road sections. In other words they are also a protective device should a boat attempt to stray into a swimmers' area. As such, it would make sense to me to keep off them and for authorities to tell people to do likewise.

Waves v floating objects = movement of floating objects

Movement of floating objects v children playing on said objects = children falling off into the water

It might be advisable for whoever is responsible for the boom in Pattaya to display in Thai & English that it is not a play platform.

We are in Thailand where logic and common sense are sometimes in short supply sad.png
