Hello southerners! I live in chiang mai and five years ago i went to koh jum for a week and just loved the island. Just my kind of place, it reminded me so much of when i first came to thailand and could enjoy the charms of ko tao and ko phangan and samui circa early-90s.

However, five years have now passed. I wonder if any major changes have happened? There were no paved roads, and just one main red earth road going the length of the island with a few side tracks. There were not so many resorts along the main western beach which i recall being about 4 or 5 kms long. Everything was chilled, and party animals hadn't found the place yet. I rememeber just two bars, freedom bar and <deleted> bar.

In addition, from people's first hand experiences of the area, and i assume that means krabi and phi phi, how does the first half of august fare for weather?

My personal way would be to just pitch up and find some accommodation that way. However, do many of the resorts close for this time of the year?

If anyone can give me any kind of updated info i'd be most grateful. I have some friends coming out in august and not sure how much i can recommened it in terms of what i saw before.

cheers!

Ko Jum is still a kind of paradise island. Nice resorts, no crowded beaches but not the place for partying. The road is better now, but not much trafic. Our friends have stayed at Seasons resort, bungalows with Ac, they were happy. People seem to come back year after year. Not sure about August, sea could be rough on the west coast where most resorts are, but sun and temp is ok. Perhaps more rain than in high season, but cheper rates might compensate for afternoon rain.

The Island is our favourite, we go there with our own boat for lunch, massage and swimming.
