Hi,

I'm sure this is not a new topic but I can't find posts on it just now and this is probably a variation on the normal theme anyway.

My son is from the UK, and is currently working in South Korea, shortly will be offshore. My Thai daughter in law has just tried to renew their daughter's passport, but has been told she either needs my son's signature in person, or on a form, so that she can do this. My son is nowhere near the Thai Embassy in Seoul and is unable to get there at the moment, and has emailed me to see if he can find out what the form is that he needs to sign, and where it's obtained from.

I've been trying unsuccessfully for over an hour to get a person to answer the phone at the Royal Thai Embassy in London (as opposed to a recording which I keep getting), so that I can ask where the form can be got from. I've tried the extension numbers I was given yesterday, but no-one is answering either of them, so I'm a bit stuck.

My son is due back in Thailand at the beginning of April, he and his wife, daughter and step son were going on a short holiday to Disneyworld in Hong Kong on his return, but if they can't get his daughter's passport renewed in time, then it will have to be cancelled - a great disappointment for the kids!

Can anyone tell me where this form he has to sign can be got from? Do they have them at the Embassy in Bangkok (I'm assuming that's where it is done, not in Pattaya), and if that's where they're obtained, if my daughter in law emails it to him, will that be sufficient if he can get it mailed back to her in Thailand?

Sorry for so many questions, but it's a bit difficult trying to help when the only phone number we've been given to call in the UK doesn't have a person at the end of it!

Thank you for any help offered with this.

I have just managed finally to get someone to answer at the Thai Embassy in London, and he's said that my son has to get the form and complete it in the Thai Embassy in Seoul, but as he's miles away in a shipyard and about to go to sea, that's unfortunately not an option. It would appear that you can't collect a form from the passport office in Bangkok to get it filled in elsewhere.

I hope this helps anyone else who might be in a similar position.

Yes this is a very irritating situation which a friend of mine also ran into recently.

She's Thai, married to an American presently living in Okinawa; wanted to renew their sons Thai Passport but was told either both parents must be physically present or the absent parent must give consent via a form signed and Notarised at a Thai Embassy or Consulate. The Thai Consulate in Naha, Okinawa apparently was not authorised to Notarise the document so he had to fly to Tokyo!
