Multi Entry Non O visa, 15 months stay?

Featured Replies

Question for a UK friend of mine here in Bangkok, has been married to his Thai wife for 8 years plus now and has never wanted to do an extension of stay, for what ever reason. So every year he gets a Non O multi entry based on marriage, via Hull (he can also do retirement as he is well over 50), when he returns to the UK. every 12 months

But am I right in saying that he can get 15 months out of this Visa, this year his current visa finishes on the 6th April 2014, so if he does another boarder run, lets say on the 3rd April and returns 4th or even 5th April ( so long as he re-enters before the 6th April ) he would be given/granted a further 90 days stay in the Kingdom???

Or have I got this all wrong.

You are correct, a 12 month visa can be stretched to give nearly 15 months in Thailand with a border hop just before the 'enter before' date.

Your friend may have difficulty next time he tries for one of these visas as the rules have been tightened significantly and financial proof is now needed, there are a couple of threads worth looking at.

If he can afford the financials getting an extension either based upon retirement or marriage would be far easier than traipsing back to the UK every year.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

As long as he does an entry on or before April 6th he will get another 90 day entry.

Thanks Crossy and ubonjoe......

I have told him that they are tightening up on the granting of Non Imm O, but he is thinking of extension of stay, next time. So maybe he will stay the now till June, return to the UK to sort some stuff out, and return on a single Non Imm O and then extend based on marriage or retirement

He can also get a multiple entry non-o based upon marriage in Savannakeht Laos without showing financial proof.

He can also get a 60 day extension to visit his wife.

If he is only staying til June he could get a 60 day extension at local immigration,( visit thai wife) which would start at the end of his current permission to stay stamp, this would save the border run.

How long is he returning to the uk for

is that a Lotus Cortina???

his length of stay in the UK depends on many factors, but averages 2 to 6 months, he's 71, so its health, funds, ect. He's been living here over the past 8 years, but its just that he was unaware that he could get 15 months from this Visa, until I mention it. I meet him last year and we both live in the same apartment block in BKK.

He has never wanted to do the extension of stay, ( I myself, am on extension based on marriage) for reason, which are not suitable for me post on this forum.

However it is something he is possible going to do when he returns.

On the 60 day extension to visit Thai wife, I take it he needs to fill out TM7 ect Immigration???

Yes a TM7 form. His wife needs to go with him when he applies. Original and copies of marriage certificate, wife's ID and house book. Plus copies of his passport pages and TM6 departure card.

The gentleman is 71 and thus in receipt of a state pension. As such he does not have to show 800,000 Baht in a Thai bank for 3 months - just proof of payment of his stae pension. I think I am correct in saying this, but I am sure others will either confirm it or point out my error.

However, he might not want to do this as if his permanent address is in Thailand, the rate at which his state pension is paid will be frozen at the rate applicable when he took residence in Thailand.

That is only if applying for a multiple entry visa in the UK at one of the consulates.

It does not apply to getting extensions of stay here the income must be 65K baht.

Suspect those UK multi- entry visas are no longer available from Hon. Consulates.

I understand all muti-entry visa requests must now be referred to the Thai Embassy in London.

This elderly gent may be better advised to obtain a triple entry tourist visa in future.
