The BTEC HND in Interior Design takes a practical approach to a discipline that enables design professionals to turn spaces into settings for a range of human activities. HNDs are a key component of the United Kingdom’s vocational educational system and the BTEC HND in Interior Design uses input from commerce and industry to meet the United Kingdom’s requirements for skilled and competent interior design professionals. The first semester of the course provides an insight into visual communication in art and design and investigates ideas generation and development. It provides an overview of contextual and cultural referencing in art and design and also looks at professional practice within the discipline. The second semester looks at digital media and considers the properties of 3D materials. It also considers drawing techniques and the processes involved in art and design. Semester 3 looks at project design, implementation and evaluation, while semester 4 considers 3D computer modelling and animation alongside furniture design, interior design and generating ideas in context. The penultimate semester considers commercial model making and the specialist 3D materials used in their production. The semester also goes into visual and personal presentations. The final semester sees students involved in a research project.
