Getting an IUD in Bangkok

Featured Replies

Hi everyone! The last post on this topic is from 2009. I followed the suggestions and called Bumrungrad the pharmacy quoted me 1000 baht for IUD and 500-2000 for visit with doctor but now via email the doctor just quoted me 42,000 for an IUD not including the consult. Now that I have regained consciousness I wanted to ask for input here. Anyone have suggestions or other hospital that might be more reasonable?

I can only assume that they misunderstood what it was you wanted. Sounds like they were quoting a surgical procedure price.

BTW very, very unlikely it was a doctor who replied to your email. More likely administrative staff and they often get medical details confused.

Though price will vary with the type of IUD, no way it will be anything near this. (Indeed I would be surprised if it exceeded 5,000 baht.)

BTW my sister had one inserted at Bkk Christian Hospital some years back, I forget the doctor's name but she just walked in without appointment and told the nurse what she needed (in her case she had a retroverted uterus and other places had been unable to insert one, so it was a problematic insertion). The nurse referred her to the doc on duty with the most IUD expertise. Over and done with in a flash and maybe a few thousand baht, I forget exactly.

As I expect you know, best to go in for this while menstruating as the cervix will be slightly open making insertion easier.

I had IUD removal and new IUD insertion at bumrungrad, i can't find the receipt at moment, but was less than 6000฿.
