Political slant put on Women's Day activities
The Sunday Nation

BANGKOK: -- On International Women's Day on Friday, the Woman's Voice group called for an end to the "violation and insults directed at the country's women leaders, while Chitpas Kridakorn, the anti-government firebrand, led female protesters in a vow to protect the motherland at Wat Phra Kaew.

Women's Voice chairperson Ladawan Wongsriwong, also a Pheu Thai party-list MP candidate, read a statement by the group that said Thailand had seen rights violations, insults and threats to the woman running the country but the National Human Right Commission (NHRC) had not looked into this. So, the group called for NHRC members to step down - to let neutral and just people do the job, she said.

The group also urged the caretaker government and Pheu Thai Party to end political violence, plus violence against women, and to create justice and equity for women, she said. The group urged the Election Commission to organised elections for remaining constituencies so as to swiftly set up a new government. One way to do this was conduct polls on March 30, the same date as the half-Senate election. And that would also save money, she said.

The group wanted all agencies to ensure justice to all sides and all women to be united and co-exist despite differences in opinion.

Meanwhile, Chitpas led female protesters in a procession from Lumpini Park to Wat Phra Kaew's Wiset Chaisri Gate yesterday to vow to join fellow anti-government protesters in fearlessly defending the motherland from offences or bids to divide the country. She also gave a speech slamming caretaker PM Yingluck Shinawatra for damaging the country over the past two years and accused Yingluck for causing injury to protesters who rallied peacefully without weapons, which had lead to deaths and injuries.

In related news, Yingluck's personal Facebook page invited all Thais to promote gender equity for national development and affirmed that the caretaker government had been working to promote Thai women's role in development via the Women's Empowerment Funds.

She cited her trip to Isaan and noted that a provincial committee in Mukdahan spent Bt14 million on activities to promote women's potential and income, while also aiding underprivileged women.

Meanwhile, permanent secretary for Public Health Dr Narong Sahamethapat reported yesterday that violence against women and children remained a serious issue.

Up to 631 centres for women have been set up in hospitals nationwide since 1999 to take care of abused women and children, he said. These had reported a total of 19,067 cases of violence against women and children in 2007 and 31,866 such cases last year, he said. Some 60 per cent of the cases involved children and the rest women. He said violence against women and children tended to increase when alcohol and drugs were involved, as well as misuse of the Internet and computers

So basically the PTP have hijacked women's day in order to sling mud at the opposition.

How surprising...... Is this the bottom of the barrel?

They can kiss my big manly ass.

Unfortunally a lot of cowadly yellow shirt men taking cheap shots at Yingluck being a women in the last few months.

Abhisit with his "stupid woman" remark, Suthep with his threat against Yinglucks son, (No wonder these dinasors cant get elected), doctor in the south saying yingluck should get vaginal surgury, and various posters on this forum in the same category. Says more about the type of people they are then anything about Yingluck though.

worth repeating

Politics is a dirty game, especially in Thailand. Let's face it, most of the politicians here you wouldn't give house room.

But there's nothing unusual about women being involved in politics, there are six of them from the Shinawat clan alone. I wonder if when they have a family party if they have a vote on what and where to eat? Nah, they probably wait for T to tell them on Skype.

Anyway, let's have no more sexist comments. If Yingluck can't take the heat then she should get back in the kitchen. wink.png

Most violence and abuse of children is carried out by mothers, feminist factoids always lump together "women and children", and also feminist government bodies ALWAYS miss out the number of male victims of domestic violence. So the child victims, were certainly victims of their mother. Feminist factoids will never mention this, of course.

All non government (read feminist) research shows domestic violence is 50/50 and even that unreciprocated violence is usually carried by the females.

feminists want to DEMONISE all men, and shame them, all of them, and give the imprssion that all men are rapists, all men are violent, whilst minismising female/lesbian violence.

Women YES, feminists NO

Is 'stupid woman' really sexist?

If people want to criticize Yingluck as being stupid, what are they supposed to say? Stupid person?

That was The Nations version to suit their agenda wrt suthep. The actual remark by abhisit was "stupid bitch". Classy.

Why the need to find a smart lady? Why must they have a contest to find a smart lady? Because (he said or I heard someone say)# if they have a contest to find a stupid ‘bitch’ then there is no one that can compete [with her].

Such people make me sick with all their pontifications.

Why not try to deal with the cause and not the effect for once in your lives, or is there more money to be siphoned with these centers and worthless committees.

Your link doesn't seem to work, but I did find this about her on the same website. Seems Ladawan has her own issues regarding rights violations in Thailand:

Deputy Labour Minister Ladawan Wongsriwong is unqualified to remain in her post for three reasons - the bullying of subordinates, her involvement in the smart-card affair, and the awarding of contracts to cronies.

A different source highlighted Red Shirt leader Ladawan's other incident of rights violation that you referenced.

you really need to get out more and actually read newspapers. In Australia the first female pm was totally hopeless and in trying to defend her pathetic attempts at buggering up the country she started using sexism as a defence by calling anyone that opposed her a misogynist(thats a woman hater for those that dont know), the people just laughed at her because they realized she was an idiot, its the same with yl, she is simply too silly and lacks the brain power/knowledge to be a pm. She is simply a puppet for thaksin, everyone apart from all the reds/ptp fan club realize this fact. It has nothing to do with being a woman, she is just too stupid, she just hasnt realized it herself yet but will when it all come crashing down arounf her ears. She avoids meetings that require any thought processes(parliament is the biggie she keeps avoiding) where she might have to actually think for herself and heaven forbid, come up with an unscripted answer, she is simply dumb as dog poo.

PS> I am no yellow shirt and cannot stand them just as I cannot stand the red brigade but that is probably too simplistic for you to understand.

Your clue less rant give credit to Moonao post, men that never got over their mommies issues!

A person blessed with natural Intelligence that have issues about someone professional capabilities and or qualities in fulfilling her roles as PM could point at the specific areas they claim she may be deficient in, the others used the shotgun approach for they are not so blessed!

There are many women on the international stage that have shown great competence in their decision making and abilities to function in what has always been (mans work) such also has been President Obama who has proven the bigots wrong in the ability of a man of color to rule over a predominate white population, no different then what is happening to Yingliuck, by the leftover Neanderthals that still roam the streets of Thailand!

Cheers

Protecting all citizens, men women and children from abuse, trafficking, exploitation etc. is obviously a critical need here, and one which the sitting Govt should focus on as a priority. That successive governments have failed to tackle this issue properly or even at all, is a source of constant sadness to me. So much money is wasted and syphoned off by the crooks, and even a small fraction would go a long way to helping victims of abuse and exploitation, and enforce laws that prevent it happening to others in the future.

Well TV is filled with misogynists so one shouldn't be surprised that some people here think like "the b**ch got what she deserved". Says a lot about the intellectual level here.

No matter what you may think about her politically, no woman deserves that kind of verbal abuse.

Reminds me of the locals that wished she was onboard the Malaysian Airline flight. That is stooping pretty low but having been here a while, I have come to realize that this country is not mature enough for a serious debate however I did expect people from developed countries to be more civilized but that turned out to be a false hope.

What does it matter? Despite all the ranting, cursing, mysogeny. In their desperation and in all their deep devious plotting, she still remains PM and will remain so in the eyes of the international community

Let's have an enquiry.

Let's allow outside investigators from the UN to analyse the books and identify this corruption Suthep paints.

Let's open all the books. Follow the money trails.

I don't think so.

It's not what THEY want.
