Swiss man found dead in pickup

CHALONG, PHUKET: A Swiss man was found dead in the driver’s seat of his pickup truck on Chao Fa East Rd on Monday. The 63-year-old man, identified by police as Johann Kupreest, was discovered slumped at the wheel with the engine off and the windows and doors locked.

Local residents noticed the unconscious Mr Kupreest and tried to assist him, but were unable to rouse the man or open the truck’s doors and so called the police.

Police officers accompanied by volunteers from Phuket Ruamjai Rescue Foundation went to the scene and banged on the door of the truck. When there was still no response from inside they broke the window and found that the man was already dead.

Pol Maj Pheeranat Chatinkaew, Administration and Crime Control Inspector of Chalong Police Station, said, “We suspect that lack of air and high temperature in the car caused Mr Kupreest to have a heart attack.”

The identity of Mr Kupreest was confirmed at Vachira Phuket Hospital. The exact cause of death is expected to be announced in two to three days after an autopsy has been performed.
