The Labour Ministry puts on hold daily minimum wage adjustment

The Labour Ministry will not adjust daily minimum wages at the moment but will find ways to increase welfare for labourers.

Caretaker Labour Minister Somsak Thepsuthin (สมศักดิ์ เทพสุทิน) said the wages had already been increased twice last year so another adjustment this year might add a burden on employers who may finally have to shut down their businesses.

Mr. Somsak said he had ordered the Social Security Office to prepare welfare assistance measures for submission to the cabinet for consideration.

Mr. Somsak added that daily expenses of workers have jumped to more than 200 baht.

Mr. Somsak: the increase of laborers' wages will not be considered at this moment

Labor Minister Somsak Thepsuthin (สมศักดิ์ เทพสุทิน) has indicated that the Ministry of Labor will not consider the proposal to raise the wages of laborers at this moment due to legal difficulties.

Before attending the meeting which was chaired by Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Mr. Somsak said that the today’s meeting will not consider the increase of laborers’ wages as it would not go in line with the law requirements.

Besides, the Ministry of Labor has just adjusted the wage rate on January 1st. He said frequent adjustments will lead to inflation.

Khun Somsak said he regretted the move but that all governmental lawyers were currently tied up with the plethora of lawsuits the TRT has filed against everyone from PAD to Mother Theresa's Foundation.

The average laborer in Bangkok makes in one day about the same as Dr.Pol.Lt.Col. Thaksin spends on a coffee at Siam Paragon (when he's unemployed of course?)

They don't give a rat's ass about minimum wages as long as they can chuck fuel in their Range Rovers and BMW's. Bugger the plebs. :o
