New Tourist Visa

Featured Replies

I am currently on a 30 day extension and have recently got a new passport as the old one had less than 6 months on it. I would now like to get a new tourist visa. Can anyone recommend the best way of doing this. I know I need to do a "border run" are there any services or companies people would recommend? Am based in Bangkok. Furthermore I am looking to get a non-immigrant B visa eventually how long do these type of visas take to process and would it perhaps be wiser to apply for one of these instead? Any advice/recommendations or suggestions welcome! :)

You need to do a visa run if you want a new tourist visa. best is to go to Laos and apply for a two entry tourist visa.

If you want to get a non-B visa, you will need to apply for a WP first and submit full documents from the company.

All visas take two day to process (apply morning of day one and get back in the afternoon of the next work day) unless you go to Cambodia where it can take 4 days.

Thanks Mario. Ok let's say I will go to Laos to do the visa run. I'm based in Bangkok. What's the best way to get to Laos? What will I need to do when I get there e.g. what form to fill in and what documents will be required. How much is a tourist visa (double entry)? Would I have to stay somewhere until the visa is processed? Are there any companies that offer this service that anyone can recommend. I need as much information as possible please, have found that even the smallest details can help. For example "take a pen" as they are scarce in immigration offices etc! :)

Info on embassy consular section and download of visa application form here: http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/vientiane/en/consular/consular_check/

You apply morning of one day and pickup next afternoon.

You will only need the application form. copy of passport photo page and Lao/visa entry stamp. Fee will be 2000 baht for a 2 entry visa.

As said can find info on getting there in the various reports for Vientiane.

Ok I will have my old passport as well as new. Will I have to drop off my old passport as well as new?

Can anyone recommend any companies that offer this service. Based in Bangkok. Thanks.

You will only need your old passport for leaving the country. They will transcribe your current entry to the new passport and stamp you out of the country in it.

You will not need it when you apply for the visa.

If anyone else has any info or advice with regards to this. If you have done it recently what problems if any did you come up against, how did you go about doing the visa run, where you stayed in the respective country, any other tips or advice you think might be relevant would be great :)

Sawadee transport(One of the more popular companies) is really good about getting things done. I got issued a new passport also and had to make the run to Laos. The company brought me to the local immigration office(About 1km from the border) had it sorted out and transferred before the national anthem even started to roll. Cost for the paperwork about 40baht. http://www.thaivisaservice.com/ Claudio's wife and niece are really good about information and getting stuff done.

Thanks very much Rick. That's just the type of service I'm looking for. It can be such a headache with language barriers and broken English to just want to give someone some money and let them do the legwork. Is it just bet to contact them off a website or do they have more direct method? What's their English like etc? ;)

"Is it just bet [sic] to contact them off a website ..."

"It can be such a headache with language barriers and broken English."

Aside from a few typos your English is no worse than many other posters here at TV.

Haha I meant having to speak pidgin English and them speaking pidgin English back. Can do without it thanks! And didn't mean anyone at TV mean people at immigration ;)

BUMP.

My current tourist visa expires in three weeks. I want my new tourist visa to start as soon as my current one runs out. Can I get a renewal at anytime? Also if anyone recommends any companies that offer via run services and rough prices and contact details, give me a shout! :)

See post 10 that mentions 2 companies and a link to a website for one of them.

You can get a new visa at any time now because you have probably have already used all the entries of your current visa.

I suspect it is your permit to stay that is expiring not your visa.
