Wow, thanks for the great info

Good luck.

If you've been vomiting and had the runs for 4 days you could be on the verge of serious dehydration,

Perhaps you should consider popping into one of the hospitals to speed things up.

If not plenty of fluids with re hydration salts, even if it goes in one end and comes out the other.

Something like Imodium might help, but it sounds as if a sample should be tested, you never know what it's possible to ingest over here.

As he says, dehydration could be your biggest problem now. Don't mess around, get seen to. I had dysentery years ago and thought I was dying. Doc put me on a saline I.V line in my house. She didn't even want me to travel to the hospital first! Edited by sharktooth

I had diarrhea and coming from the west went to the pharmacy and asked for some. The Pharmacist asked what kind I had and suggested I also take another pill with it. Worked like magic. One more similar experience with another pharmacist same answer same result. I do not know what the other pill was but it seems to me that many of the pharmacists here are well informed. My son came to visit with a stop in Pattaya first. told me he was not feeling well and I told him to go to a pharmacist and describe the symptoms to them. Cleared the problem right up and he was able to not enjoy his last four days in Pattaya feeling healthy.cheesy.gif

I myself have a family doctor now and would consult her. She is on the pinned list Dr. Morgan.

Kind of nice to have an old fashioned doctor. She has all my health records. Word is she has even made house calls.wai.gif

Just returned from her office, I really think she's good and will point someone in the right direction.

Good point I am glad you mentioned it.

She has no problem sending some one to a specialist.

She even laughed when I suggested I try acupuncture for a pain I have that is basically for ever and can only be treated with pain killers which I prefer to use very sparingly. She said well go ahead.

After all better, remember the medicines given. The next time it happens, you'll be able to get them at a fraction of the cost from your local pharmacy.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

Ciprofloxacin is a good antibiotic for more serious stomach 'bugs' that Imodium can't handle and is available over-the-counter from any pharmacy. I always carry a course of it when working in remote locations.

As mentioned above, keep yourself well hydrated, perhaps adding some soluble salts, again from any pharmacy.

Ciprofloxacin is a good antibiotic

Never, I mean never take a fluoroquinolone (one of which is Ciprofloxacin) unless prescribed and there is absolutely no other antibiotic that your particular bug shows sensitivity to, after being cultured for several days in a lab setting.. They can be useful in certain circumstances, but have side effects that are/ can be very destructive, including tearing of tendons (Achilles) and permanent destruction of GABA receptors in the brain. IMO it is a drug that should be taken off the market, so severe are some of the side effects. What make it so destructive is that the symptoms of damage can show up months after the medication has ceased to be taken not right away. If you don't know what GABA receptors are, you can Google it, but let me assure that losing function of these receptors puts you in a permanent state of panic and anxiety, similar to alcohol withdrawal, but forever!

Amateurs are wonderful in their "Knowledge" and "recommendations"

If "SICK" the wise consult a Doctor !

It was first recommended by my UK GP who himself had spent a good few years in S.E.Asia.

It has fixed me up on the few occasions I've needed it/

I remember getting a dose of the trots that wouldn't go away, and went to see the local doctor in Phuket.

After poking around he pressed on my stomach and asked if it hurt. He might have got the clue from the yelp I let out.

Turns out I had a stomach infection and there was no obvious pain or tenderness until he compressed it.

One pill and one night it was gone, so might have been protozoan in nature.

I think they've seen all the dreaded lurgies that go around, and for once it wasn't a course of antibiotics and a handful of other pharmaceutical sweets. I think the whole consult cost me Bt550 including the drug.
