Book about living in Isan, written by a female Farang

Featured Replies

Hi

Does anyone recall the name of a book written by a British female who married a local isan guy and settled on isan for 5 years or so? I think I remember the title including a reference to Mekong, moon and whisky.

Thanks

I don't know that one, but a good book about a Canadian girl living near Issan is Touch The Dragon: A Thai Journal
by Karen Connelly. It is one of my favorites.

I agree, UG, an excellent book. But she was living in Denchai, which is near Phrae..... and not near Issan.

An older one, written by a teacher at Chula, whose name I've forgotten, is Mae Pen Rai Means Never Mind, and deals with Bangkok in the 1950s. Also highly recommended.

I always go through Denchai on my way to Nong Khai, so it seemed close to Issan to me. biggrin.png

Kind of rings a bell, but after a bit of google foo I'm thinking must have been self-published, or maybe by one of the bookshop chains and not released internationally?

Can't believe the forum software auto-deletes the string "eff yoo" as in foo manchu. Maybe as an abbreviation but. . .

Wonder why you even got up today. Just what is needed on a web forum.
