Tourist Visa

Featured Replies

I contacted a visa run service and said I need to do a visa run to Laos to get a new tourist visa. I've recently got a new UK passport which I mentioned to them. They said that I'd need a letter from the Passport Office to say this is my new passport. It's kind of annoyed me a little as I've jumped through a lot of hoops to get my new passport delivered. Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and/or if they can offer up any advice? Thanks! :)

Just go on the visa run with old + new passports. The immigration guys will do the necessary.

Oh and find a visa run service that knows the business !

if you go to an immigration office to do the stamp transfer many will will ask for the letter from your embassy.

Immigration at a the airport or border crossing do not normally ask for it.

But at the bridge in Nong Kai they have you do it at the immigration office their during the hours the office is open. It is likely the visa run company is talking from experience at Nong Kai.

Most embassies will do the letter while you wait and do not charge for it.

What a pain in the ar**. So does that mean I would be able to get one from the British Embassy in Bangkok do you know?

The British Embassy will provide the letter free if it is requested.

Thanks to you both. Apologies if any of my messages come across short tempered. Just annoyed at endless "hoop-jumping".

I got the stamps transferred to my new passport without any letter from the British Embassy.

Some Immigration Offices will not need one.

Give it a try first.

I think visa runs are pretty pricey and time consuming so can only do it once really. Unfortunately.

Laos provides Consular services ONLY . Immigration issues are not managed by consulates but by Thai immigration officers either at a border, an airport or an immigration office.

This for the Nong Kai immigration office. The OP is doing a visa run to Vientiane and immigration at the bridge send people that have a new passport back to that office for their stamps to be transferred.

He has been been advised by a visa run company that he will need a letter from the embassy which I suspect from experience knows that Nong Kai immigration will ask for the letter.

To the OP I suggest you make a trip to the UK embassy in the morning. You can take the sky train to Phloen Chit station and from their it is short walk to the embassy. Map of area: http://www.bts.co.th/customer/en/images/area-map/E2_update.gif

Can anyone personally recommend a tourist visa run service. The company I was recommended on here only has April dates and want to sort before then. Please no generalist replies.
