Hi,

last year (year before???) when they brought in the compulsory minor ID card system, we got IDs for our girls.

The other day someone told me that at 15 the kids have to trade in their child ID cards for adult ones - this was an off the cuff remark by someone that is Thai, but not necessarily knowledgeable at all in this regard - and their belief based on before, where at 15 Thais had to get an ID card.

My daughter turns 15 this summer, but her ID card says "Expires: 2020". Not been able to find anything on this, does anyone have the low down?

Cheers.

I bet the government official with this great idea has shares in the card making company. What a joke to have 6 year old children carry around id cards. Pathetic if you ask me.

My 7 year old has hers. As with my one, it is highly useful and makes life easier to have one than to not.

To answer to OPs question the ID cards are the same for child and adult.

Enlighten me. In what way does that card make a 7 year old child's life easier?

It makes my life easier...

Anytime I have to interact with a Thai government agency with regards to paperwork for my family, any time we need to travel by air domestically, proof of age, getting the local price at national parks/other places.

I'm not pulling it out on her behalf every day, but enough to make it worthwhile.

Fair enough, but to ask a child to carry a card ever where they go is a bit much.
