Triple Entry Visa Stay Length

Featured Replies

Hi, on another site I saw the following info:

Single Entry Tourist Visa: 60 Days + 30 Days (1,900THB) = 90 Day stay

Double Entry Tourist Visa: 60 Days + 30 Days (1,900THB) + Visa Run (+/-2,200THB) 60 Days + 30 Days (1,900THB) = 180 Days

My local consulate in the USA has a triple entry option for another $40. Does that mean I can do another visa run and extend the stay to 270 days? Sounds like it, just want to confirm before I do it tomorrow.

Thanks

Moved to Visa section.

Yes, that's how it works, on condition that the visa is valid for travel to Thailand for six months. You won't get the full 270 days, though, because a few days will probably elapse between the date the visa is issued and the date you make your first entry into Thailand.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

In my experience I wasn't able to get that long. The entire visa expires on a certain date, so try to get it shortly before you fly. If you extend the first two visas for 30 days, the visa may expire before you use the last one. Just make sure you use the last entry before the visa expires, and then you can extend that last one 30 more days for 1,900 baht.

Except that the visa is valid for 6 months rather than 180 days. If you can avoid Feb. in the 6 months, you will have 3-4 days you can 'lose' but still get the 180 days before activating the final entry to get 270. There is also the potential get getting 1 additional day depending on the immigration officer. The visa sticker says 'enter before xx' but often they will allow entry on that date. Not worth the risk in my view because if they say no you lose 90 days and are stuck with either a 15 or 30 day entry.

If the visa is issued in Bali for example then chances are you will be off the very next day so getting a full 270 is quite easy. The same would be true of a double entry from Laos in order to get a full 180 days as most seem to collect their visa, jump on a bus and enter Thailand on the day of issue.

For some reason I completely messed up my dates for flights last September which would mean I had 17 days to find after my third entry and 30 day extension finished which means 2 trip to get land entries with the second being for 3 days use! However, since the change last November regarding 30 day land entries (UK passport holder) I don't need to do the second trip. I see a piece in the news section today regarding back to back land entries being reduced back to 15 days. Hopefully I will not get caught in that because I didn't enter on a visa exempt to start with. Fingers crossed I guess but I'm not going to overstay regardless. Stay legal I say.

Even so, most people probably won't be able to get 270 days out of the visa anyway. If you are doing border runs to activate your second and third entries, the day you leave (the final day of your extension) will also be the first day of your next 60 day permission to stay. So you will lose one day on each border run (unless you spend the night outside Thailand).

True enough. I managed 269 last year and this year will get 268 which is not bad considering the triple entries were issued in the UK and they both included Feb.
