If I am to marry my loved one here in LOS, Ive read that if I can get a letter from my consulate confirming that I earn more than 40,000 thai baht per month then I dont have to have 400k in a bank for more than 2 months. Is this correct?

I contacted the oz consulate last week who advised that they cannot actually give a letter confirming my monthly income but they can witness my signature on a Statutory declaration form where I declare that my income is above a certain level. ie I can sign it in front of consular staff and they would sign as witness and stamp it. Is this correct? Would thai immigration accept this?

My income is derived from interest income from the bank on a monthly basis and thus I dont know if I could submit bank statements as part of the application to thai immigration?

A final question.... When applying for the marriage visa, would my thai wife ever see the letter above? If Im handling all the documents etc and taking care of the visa is there any need for her to see my income.

Moved to visas for Thailand forum.

The statutory declaration will be accepted to prove your income. Very few immigration offices ask for back up proof of the income. The best back up proof is to have a Thai bank book showing regular transfers into the country. It does not have to be entire 40k or even need to be done on a monthly basis. A bank statement from your bank in Oz showing ATM withdrawals would also be accepted.

It would probably be hard to hide the info from your wife since you both need to go to immigration when you apply for the extension.

Also she will be interviewed to complete a statement you both will need to sign. Part of the statement involves your income and how you receive it.

At the moment when Im paid my money every month Im withdrawing it at the ATM (2 to 3 times a month(. I wonder if I would be better doing an IMT transfer to a thai bank account which might be more cost effective and also is it better proof for the immigration officials. If I stick to my current ways I can always print off online statements from the bank acc I suppose. I noticed that ubonjoe wrote:

Making ATM withdrawals over time becomes expensive ---------check your statements for proof!

Better to open a Thai bank account and have a discussion with the Australian Bank as to the most cost effective means of transferring money on a monthly basis.

Always have the money transferred in $ as a better exchange rate is available in Thailand.
