An immigration police squad under captain Achep Jaroensantisuk snatched nine women and discovered they all of them were on the blacklist for entering the kingdom. It is not known how the women managed to evade immigration checks at the airport, but the women were denied extensions of stay which is certainly understandable. The women admitted that they use local hotels to rent rooms and slept in relays to save money. They denied actively soliciting in the streets, but said they did not turn down offers if Europeans were insistent on a short time. A meeting was held between the immigration bureau and the regular police department to see what could be done to end street prostitution by foreigners. It was agreed that use of snatch squads and regular monitoring of passport documentation were the most effective strategies. The women in question will be deported at their own cost and their personal details re-entered on the “stop” list of aliens who are not welcome here. According to some of the local sweet, innocent farm girls earning a decent living downtown, these Uzbek/Tajik/Kyrg/Russkie women are popular as they tend to be able to speak better english than those previously mentioned girls from Isaan. However they were not so popular with European men; who opt for the 'Asian' lady. They are popular with Thai men and oriental tourists (mainly Korea). There was a raid last year on one such establishment. I feel sorry for them; they stick-out with white skin and fair hair. (not certain either because never saw her close up) You're thinking of the Galaxy (next to Polo). Some of those girls look like they came straight from the Russian Basketball and/or Volleyball team. Once in awhile a couple will sneak in to Polo and have a couple of shots (vodka) at the bar. Seeing them standing next to the Thai go-go girls is scary. Seeing them up close, out of make-up, sends shudders and shivers down my spine. The law is that you as a foreigner should carry your passport around with you at all times. However very few of us do. Some people carry a photocopy.
