Hi everyone, I have been lurking the forums for a while but I just made an account to share this. So here's a little story for anyone thinking of flying domestic with a overstay visa. I dont want to give too much details of where this happened but it was in BKK.

I am not proud to admit but I am 70 days overstay here. I am not a bad person, I just really enjoy the country and have gotten lazy doing visa runs. I have money, I dress well, I dont buy hookers, I dont bring any problems to Thailand, but yes its my fault for not leaving. After searching through the forums about flying with domestic flight/overstay visa, I figured I would be in the clear to fly down South. I brought an extra 20K baht just in case I had any problems.

Very recently, I flew from BKK to spend some time in sun. The reason I flew was because I wanted my dog to come with me but didnt want to toruture her sitting on a bus for half a day. Arrive at airport and check in, no problems at all. Spent 5 days in Koh Samui just being a beach bum with my dog and then flew back to BKK. After arriving at airport, I was walking to the baggage pickup where I noticed a man sitting on a chair flagging me over to him. He was in plain clothes but holding a paper and had a radio.

Man - "Are you Mr. X??

Me - "Yes, I am."

Man - "Mr. X, I am letting you know that our computers show that you are 70 days overstay, is this true?" (My photo was on the paper with all the information.)

Me - "Yes that's correct."

Man - "Ok shit man (asks for my passport), why you stay so long?"

Me - " I love it here."

Man - " Haha ya me too, so what we have to do now is go down to the immigration police where you have to spend the night where you will have to pay a fine tomorrow."

Me - "Ok, I have my dog with me, can I pay tonight?"

Man - "How much can you pay?"

Me - "20,000baht"

Man - "You can pay that now? You have money now?"

Me - "Yes"

Man - "Ok, let me phone my supervisor and see if we can help you dude. I really want to help you, you seem like a nice guy."

2 other plane clothes police show up that were helping him.

Man - "Ok, my boss say ok. But when you leave the country, you will need to pay fine again ok? But you dont go to jail tonight and I dont see you again. Lets go get your bags and your dog. Just walk normally and get your stuff. We go in the bathroom and you leave money in there."

Me - "Ok sounds good"

Man - "If you want to stay here, you have stay low, dont fly, dont get into trouble, dont use your passport. Things are getting more tight here. We check all foreign passports now even on domestic flights."

Continued to talk to me with the other guys about what not to do to avoid the police, tips and what not, joking around, making small talk.

Grab my bags and then they lead me to a bathroom.

Me - "Are there going to be police waiting for me outside after I pay?"

Man - "No, I will walk you to the taxi's and make sure you get into a taxi, ok"

I put the money in the stall and walk out. Police goes in and gets in, gives me back my passport.

Walk to the doors where the taxi's are and where the main cop is. He continues to talk to me about Thailand, how my trip was and was actually a really nice guy.

Man - "You know, this is a win win situation. You are happy, Thailand is happy. No problem."

Me - "I absoluetely agree."

Taxi shows up, I get in, see ya.

I didnt show fear, I gave him lots of respect, I didnt lie, I didnt deviate from questions, and most importantly, I had 20,000 friends in my pocket.

If you want to play, be prepared to pay. Thats my story.
