Abhisit calls on Yingluck, Suthep to hold talks on live TV

Recommended Posts

As the live discussion between Ms. Yingluck and k. Suthep was proposed a while ago and dismissed by some government figures who immediately proposed some 'better' substitutes for Ms. Yingluck and with Ms. Yingluck all of a sudden showing less interesting in talking with Suthep, I would expect that we'll get some similar answers now.

Of course some seem to try to avoid all this and concentrate of the referendum. Now of course we'd still need the get reforms into a proper form with input and involvement of many before we can go that way. The current Pheu Thai thinking of 'democracy = elections, so election first' doesn't seem to help much.

Yingluck can barely read her prepared speeches, let alone handling unprepared responses to random questions and policy attack.

Red apologists will all sorts of diversions to avoid the fact that Yingluck has never and will never debate anyone on live TV. It's a pretty simple request that is done in almost every other country in the world leading up to elections to give both sides the opportunity to state their policy and rebuff the opposition.

The reason is clear. Yingluck would be made to look like the uneducated fool that she is...and probably cry again.

Thank you 3 times.

She does not need to talk to Suthep, he is not running for election, Abhisit may be so he should be the one if there is a TV show.

But she really does not need to talk to an almost ex leader of the opposition either.

Let her talk to a 3rd grader...the outcome will be the same...

Fine, let Abhisit do it then...

... we both know that there is no way Yingluck will allow herself to go live on a televised debate, she will be laughed off stage and that will put an end to her career.

Smart man Abhisit. Distancing himself from the conflict and presenting the voice of reason happy in the knowledge that Yingluck couldn't tell you the 2 sides of a coin and that Suthep can talk for days

Abhisit might be smart, but after boycotting the last election and threatening to do the same at the next one, the man has no credibility. He is nothing more than Suthep's lap dog answering to his master's voice. This is nothing more than a publicity stunt by the marginalised leader of a marginalised and increasingly irrelevant party.

If he wanted to make a serious contribution, he could start by confirming that his party will contest the next election and set out policies that benefit the whole country, not just the Democrats tradition supporters.

Indeed.

Here is a suggested set of policies that he could follow:

Pay the rice farmers massively over the market price, keep the rice rotting in wareshouses and allow costs and corruption to run up to approaching a trillion baht

Promise to get all students a Samsung Galaxy Tab and instead buy some of useless device for tuppence hapeny that is useless and dies after a couple of days

Promise to increase the minimum salary and then do nothing to police it whilst permitting inflation to run amok

Promise to pay graduates a minimum salary of 15,000B and quietly permit that to die a death

Promise to reconcile the country and bring in an act under incredible subterfuge that does nothing of the sort and in fact divides the country even further

Cheat and lie at every oportunity whilst bringing in acts of law that benefit the family

When under fire put on false tears and wear false bandages whilst in false wheelchairs

That should do it

You forgot the following;

* Run and hide in your political stronghold under the guise of visiting OTOP markets whilst the country burns around you

* Intimidate and threaten the very organisation that is charged with running an election, even when they strongly advise against the proposed election date

* Threaten and intimidate the courts of the land when they do not rule in your favour

* Fire civil servents that do not have the same political outlook as you, then bitch and moan when the court forces you to reinstate them

....and the only one that really affected me was the 20-baht flat fare BTS that Yingluck promised...and she even screwed the pooch on that one.

Another skirting the subject in a round about way.

Don't you think FOR THE FIRST TIME IN TWO YEARS, she has an obligation to explain where the monies have gone amongst other things.

Most good democracies have weekly question times that the PM has to answer so in two years is it asking for too much???

If you are afraid the same as she is. your hiding what. YOUR post saying she doesn't have to do is about what the PTP stands for dictatorship, blaming others and refusing to conform--(only when it suits them) not the nation, Thailand is wanting to hear- because it's media and Tv channels are afraid to broadcast without threat--is that democracy you shout about ???

"Each side refuses to accept the other's reasons. So, I think we must follow a middle path.

Equating a basic Buddhist tenant with a television debate. Abhisit is such a silly person.

Rubbish--it is a matter of COME CLEAN time, refusal is denial nothing more, maybe a little fear.

Abhisit really needs to clean up his act. He's calling for a referendum out of one side of his mouth while out of the other side he's calling for a dog and pony television show between the caretaker PM and the streetwalker and foot stomper Suthep, who has no position in government or in a political party, and thus no standing to debate the prime minister.

Well, it wouldn't be a first. Back when Abhisit was PM he held a televised meeting/negotiation with Jatuporn, Nattawut and Veera.

Yes, I of course recall, as you might expect others to also recall. Those three powdered up debates under the kleg lights accomplished absolutely nothing. A dog and pony show with buffaloes thrown in besides. In front of the camera they became what I'd said at the time, the Three Stooges Plus One Other. They and their antics quickly bored a whole nation. It's best at times such as these to keep all of these characters away from the live television cameras and studios. A serious approach to "reforms" takes long and comprehensive discussions over an extended period of time with openness and regular reports to an engaged public. Abhisit is a compulsive show horse, nothing more.

Well at least those meetings/negotiations led to some new terms in Thai, like "wenging around" for instance. Plus of course the Nation could watch how from a near agreement the negotiations were suddenly aborted by the UDD. Allegedly as someone called in to voice displeasure.

Seriously, no contract negotiated in public will hold up after the kleg lights go off. Negotiated agreements are by their nature complex, complicated, require drawn out give and take, need lawyers, take time and patience etc.

Suthep needs to present his proposals to the Senate committee, in public. Suthep would be privileged to appear before the Senate because Suthep has no position in government or in a political party. A prime minister certainly has no call to go on live television with a streetwalker to discuss constitutional issues.

It was might boring indeed, and it led nowhere, of course. Just wanted to highlight that it wouldn't set a precedent for a PM to meet with the head of an anti-government movement.

I'm pretty sure Abhisit is aware that a live debate between Yingluck and Suthep, is pointless, mismatched etc. - and would basically serve the interests of the Democrat Party. He's every bit the politician on this one, grabbing at every advantage his side can get. Wouldn't say a "compulsive show horse" as he won't be taking part in the proposed debate.

It is true that reforms do not, usually, emerge on live TV. Still would have been interesting to get a clear notion of what sort of reforms are on the table.

I think that k.Suthep's job is somewhat finished when Ms. Yingluck steps down or is forced down through the NACC / Senate. He may want to be involved with advising or selecting an neutral MP, but than that's it.

The reforms are handled by the PDRC with frameworks being formulated. Frameworks which make it easier to have discussions with larger groups of Thai and/or make it easier to response or provide input.

As for 'Suthep's proposals to the senate' I'm not sure I really understand what you mean. Also the 'PM versus streetwalker' comparision seems a somewhat crude remark meant to diminish the status and importance of Suthep. Well at least Ms. Yingluck doesn't walk the streets, doctor's orders you know.

The first thing they need is a well hidden earpiece for someone to tell YL what to say. Next thet will need a sworn statement Suthep won't veer from the predisclosed agenda. Last but not least they will need a trustworthy person manning the off switch for the live broadcast since YLs earpiece will fall out while she is on the toilet and she will not know what to say and Sutheps mouth will be unable to control itself in lashing out at YL for her failed leadership and her many schemes (scams)

Abhisit at his most stupid !

Why would a PM want to talk with the guy who refused to talk when she asked.

Suthep belongs in Jail, and the moment they take him in, they should, broadcast live !

Not sure myself what to believe, but Suthep has said so a few times and I think that there are enough real reform minded figures within the PDRC to have Suthep kindly sidelined if he wants to keep being actively involved.

The PM already refused to talk with Suthep before even though she had asked the police to arrange an arrest warrant to get Suthep as she really wanted to talk to him. The PM is good at talking to people. Discussions though don't seem her forte, unless with people who agree with her that is.

But she really does not need to talk to an almost ex leader of the opposition either.

Of course she may well be an ex leader herself soon.

However, the situation calls for something to be done and soon so Abhisit's suggestion of getting the two protagonists together to thrash out their differences in an open public forum and see how they each intend to resolve them can only help to clear the air.

Suthep may be an old hand but he is the challenger here. Yingluck is in the box seat but if she is really her own woman and the right one for the job as she claims this is her big chance to prove it. If she's not able then her brother will have to flick through the family album and try to find someone else to appoint in her place.

"Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva Tuesday called on caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and People's Democratic Reform Committee secretary general Suthep Thaugsuban to told talks on national reform live on TV"

Another anti-democrat suggestion from someone who is the leader of what is called a "Democrat Party".

So Suthep, representing electoral minority coup-mongers, gets to strut about the public space, at an equal level to someone representing the electoral majority.

Ridiculous.

Let him debate her, or whomever she selects to get down in the mud with him, in a Parliamentary debate.

And let Parliamentary rules dictate how that is done, considering a minority Opposition debating a majority governing party. Parliament has rules for such a thing.

AV's point quoted below, will be achieved when that Parliamentray session is broadcast live.

As he says, and I quote "will create confidence among the people and prevent the spread of rumours that cause both sides to attack each other"

But to put the leader of minority coup-mongers at the same level as an elected Prime Minister would be highly disrespectful to the voting majority, by diminshing the value of their vote....And it would not amuse them.

What a brilliant show that would be but who would be the moderator ?

I propose the Fox Lady as moderator, any seconders?

Second.

LOL, good choice.

Greta scares the hell outta me... I dunno if either of them could survive her.
