On the tele the other night was a doco about the game of Soccer/Football.

Now, unless I got this wrong, in late 1800's, the rules were actually decided by the toffy nobs of Cambridge.These Cambridge lads were all gentlemen and because of this they couldn't possibly get their hands dirty,so they changed the rules accordingly.Only kicking the ball was allowed.This is how football became....

A year or so later, the blokes that were previously running with the ball in hand(working class lads) were so pissed off that they formed the Rugby Union.

It's a funny old world.

Yeah, that's the modern day rules which were established back then but football or something similar (perhaps mob football) stretches back to somewhere around the Middle Ages in England.

That's what we have all believed, but by the sounds of it people were running with the ball before then.The only upper echilons of society playing were in England.

Next time somebody mentions football/soccer to me, I'm going to throw my nose in the air and mention under my breath "bloody toffy nose pooftars"...

Football is a game of SKILL ..Rugby is a game of who can punch somebody harder than someone else... Not much skill involved there..hence the sport is limited to mostly Commonwealth countries as we Brits invented it.. as we did most sports (humble humble),.

Its definatley not a Toffs game.. thats Cricket

However if there was a sport that involved chasing sheep...well then we would have no chance.. although our breatheren in Wales might have an outside chance

I agree on both counts . Must admit, winning rugger 2003 was superb but winning the footy would be orgasmic
