Passport lost while overseas, with a Valid 1 year Non-B Extension

Featured Replies

Hi there,

My mate works with a thai company with a valid work permit and 1 year extension of Non-B . He's on an overseas trip and the unfortunate thing of losing his passport has happened. He's asked about what to do now? How does he return now and how to reinstate his lost NON-B extension again if it's possible? Or will he need to start from scratch once again?

Guess he will need to start again !

First thing he will need to do is get a new passport or travel document of some kind from his embassy where he is at.

Then after returning here he should go to immigration and show the police report from the country he is in (possibly translated) for the lost passport. Immigration would then be able to reinstate his extension of stay in his new passport.

An extension of stay from immigration is not lost with a passport. Only valid visas from an embassy or consulate are lost.

Thanks Ubon. That's very valuable input. The question is, how does he return? can he just come on visa exempt and then immigration will convert the visa exempt entry into his lost NON-B extension?

They could change the visa exempt entry to an entry equal to what he would get from his re-entry permit he had in his passport.

Does he have copies of his lost passport that show his extension and etc? That would make things a lot easier at immigration.

He has a copy of the lost passport front page, and a copy of the extension page, but not the current extension, rather last year's extension. He has been on yearly extensions from last 7 years. I guess immigration can check from their records? And will his multiple re entry permit will also be restored along with the extension?

They should be able to do the re-entry permit also.
