True's 4G Internet Coverage in CM

Featured Replies

I saw that this topic was addressed, I think, last December. However, maybe there's more info now.

As I understand it, True currently provides 4G coverage for only parts of Chiang Mai. Does anyone know when True will provide 4G for all of Chiang Mai? I went to one of their offices and the young man there kindly said somewhere from this June to December. I tried emailing True for specifics, but got a reply that answered different questions. The CSR also gave me a link to a web page that has a drop-down menu that seemingly provides sites within specified cities that provide True's 4G service. Oddly, even after clicking the icon to switch the page to English, the Thai characters that are the title to that menu remain.

I am concerned because I have become interested in a Galaxy tablet, which of course requires wifi. However, I understand that there's a problem for me with the 3G. As I have been told, although True's 3G maximum mp/s may be 42, the normal volume of users reduces it greatly which makes watching videos very difficult. However, 4G's maximum is a comfortable 100. Please correct me if I am mistaken. I am not normally interested in computers.

Thanks!

well, no small part of the problem will begin with quality of video (HD being the most bandwidth demanding) and where the video is located.

From there, you then have the problem of the True (both kinds of true) bandwidth being provided. We have 4G on our note3 and around town it is spotty, but in some of the "good" areas, it is rock solid and speedtest tells me i am getting 40+... then in other parts of town, it still might say 4G and i only get 20+.

Now, both those are higher than my home DSL (a 10 Mb line) but even at home, i can get really crappy speeds to USA/Europe and fine speeds to

Japan or HK... sometimes it depends on time of day, day of week or color of shirt I am wearing!

This is Thailand...protect yourself at all times and only believe 1/2 of what you see and 1/4 of what you read...

Don't they only give you 3 or 4gbs at 42mbps - wouldn't you get through that in about 10-12 minutes? If so, I don't see the point of it...

we have "watchdog" service on our 4g phone and we never ever go over our 4 gig usage allotment... we download plenty of vids ... watch youtube,

download large files, attachments, etc.. so, as usual, mileage may vary...

i know there is some math involved here, but too lazy to figure it out... i mean a whole good quality movie is down to 700mgs these days...

If you're watching 700mb movies, then a 7mbs connection would be more than fast enough to stream them - you're not getting any benefit from a higher speed connection. So I still don't get the point of super-fast 4g with only a 4 gig allowance.

The maths is 42mb / 8 = 5.2mb/s

4,000mb / 5.2 = 769

769s / 60 = 12.8 minutes
