Hey Guys,

I’m a U.S. citizen who entered Thailand on my passport only. My 30 day stay runs out on the 20th of June and I want to stay longer. What is the best way to get another 30 days? From what I understand all I have to do is cross over to Cambodia and come back in to get another 30 days… Is this correct? I will be traveling by car from Bangkok with my Thai friend so I’m looking for the quickest and easiest trip. Also I’m a little unclear what I need to bring for just the 30 day entry on passport and will my Thai friend need anything beside his passport?

Your advise is greatly appreciated..

You will need money for visa and photos to get into Cambodia. Believe cost is 1,000 baht if paid in local currency. There may also be an extra charge for returning the same day. And assorted other requests for funds that are probably not required. To return you should be able to show 10,000 baht if requested (not likely but it is the requirement).

Thanks Lopburi3,

Am I correct in assuming all this takes place at the border, or do I need to go to a consulate office? Also….. Any suggestions on where to crossover? As in the safest and most interesting, may as well see the sites while we’re there.

I have never been to that border and have no desire to go from what I have heard. There are two crossings used by most people and the visa services so if you read the many threads in this section about visa services you should get a good idea of which you may like and what is (or is not) there.

And yes you can obtain visa at the border.

Hello Logan. I was in similar situation as you are few years ago when I had come to Thailand on triple tourist visa from America. I now have the one year non-immigrant multiple entry 0. But I still have to make visa runs every 3 months.

Many farang go to Poipet, Cambodia via Aranyaprejtet (spelling wrong) Thailand by visa run companies by bus or minivan for about 2,000 to 2,500 baht. Beware of those helping you to fill out the form. Its a cinch. You can do yourself.

Make sure you have your 1,000 baht for Cambodian visa. They will stamp a big (entire page) Cambodian visa that will enable you to stay for one month, if you like, in Cambodia. Many people go gambling right at Poiet. Others go to Cambodia's 2nd largest city, Battambang. Other than that, not much to do there.

Make sure you bring one or two passport pictures which they will use to attach to the form you fill out.

They'll also photograph you via small webcamera as you are waiting right at the Cambodian immigration window. Smile.

I live in Pattaya so I easilly take the Casino bus (only 200 baht total for farang, 100 baht for Thai) on Suhkumvit Road near Big C. Get there in about 4 hours. Cross the border. Get visa..go gambling...6 o'clock the casino bus leaves Aranya and heads back to Pattaya.

In your case (as with all cars and buses headed back through Aranya) you 'll probably be stopped by Thai mililtary so have your passport ready and a big smile. They are trying to crack down on illegal Cambodians entering Thailand.

Enjoy your trip.

No, he need his passport only for Combodia (not ID).

Not quite accurate. Your friend needs his Thai ID when leaving Thailand or he can be charged 200 baht for not having it. Ofcourse If you are just going and coming back he doesn't really need to go to with you anyway.

But he has to show his passbook also when he will escort him in Cambodia or a bit shoppiing there. Why my GF before (now my wife) couldn't go inside the border with her ID only? I asked her before again and she say, no you can't. Sorry when I'm wrong but was happened us two times in "Aranyaprathet-Poi Pet" and "Pong Nam Ron-Duang". And of course Thai's have to to carry the ID on the body this is the law.

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to say Thanks for all your advice. Sounds like things should go smoothly as long as we have our passports and lots of cash….. For the gambling of course! My Thai friend shouldn’t have a problem as he has both his ID and passport. He just recently moved back to Thailand after many years in San Francisco and has traveled much so all his paperwork is in order as is my own.

Now on to finding a job in Bangkok so I can stay longer…. Any Ideas?

Thai's need a Passport at the Cambodian border.

I would avoid PoiPet specially if you are not familiar.

You can still drive to BanLaem/Pong Nam Ron to cross there,no hassle and Casino is available as well a nice hotel .

More info required pls PM me.

Thank you
