Where to go for 1 day camping near Bangkok ?

Featured Replies

Hello Friends :)

Can you recommend a place for 1 day camping near Bangkok ? we are a few friends who want to spend a day in nature and make fire and BBQ :D We have car , so we are not worried if place is remote.

I prefer some where like jungle with lots of trees and shadows and may be a small waterfall and river. it is the dream ! I would appreciate your help and suggestions :)

Check out Nakhon Nayok Province. Lots of outdoor activities.

This guy knows his geography.

I will go one further and say, get on the 3049 and head for Nang Rong waterfall, you dont even need to go as far as Nang Rong, there are plenty of places signposted on this road, we usually go to Gaang Sam Chan before Nang Rong.

As noted above, plenty of activities.

I think your best choice would be to head up to Khao Yai National Park near Pak Chong in Nakorn Ratchasima provence and since you have a car getting there will be fairly easy. From Bangkok it's about 150 km. Google Khao Yai NP for details. My wife and I have camped there many times over the years. If you don't already have camping gear, no worry, as you can rent all you will need at the camp site,ie tent, blankets, charcoal cooker etc. Lots of hiking trails, waterfalls etc. If you really want to get off the beaten path you can hire a park ranger to guide you. Try to go during the week as the weekends are very crowded. I don't recall the name but camping is better at the second camping area.

Thank you for all of your replies friends. I did some research on Internet and I liked both Nakhon Nayok and Khao Yai National Park options. but Khao Yai seems a more straight forward choice to me although it is very huge on google maps. is there any entrance fee for khao yai ? and do they allow you to make fire in there (We want to make tea and BBQ) ? Spaniel mentioned there are two camping sites , I would appreciate if someone can guide me where is the better second camping area.

Edit : I found the name of camping areas 1.Pha Kluay Mai camping ground 2.Lam Takhong camping ground , just tell me which one is better.

The entrance fee is I think B200. I'm not sure because when we go my (Thai) wife pays and I get in for the Thai price. If you have a Thai driver lisc. or work permit show them at the gate and you may get in at the Thai price too. Yes, you are allowed to have a fire at both camp sites. You can rent a charcoal cooker in which you can build the fire.

Pha Kluay Mai camping area is, I think, the better of the two. But before you get to Pha Kluay Mai you will pass Lam Takhong, so since you will be driving, you can stop there first and take a look. The other camp site, Pha Kluay Mai, is only a few km farther down the road. In addition to renting a tent, in case you don't bring one, you will also have to pay a small fee to camp, which I think is around B30 per person per night. Before you get to the camping areas you will pass the visitors center where you can get maps of the hiking trails etc. Their also are a couple or restaurants in that area.

Entrance fee to KY park, 50 baht for the car, Thai price 40 baht per person, farang price 400 baht per person.

If you speak Thai and show a Thai drivers license you will get the Thai price.

There are many camping areas, probably at least 5 or 6, all pretty much the same.

Tents can be rented, 250 baht per night.

Your info is a bit out of date. Their are only two camping areas in Khao Yai NP, Pha Kluay Mai and Lam Tak Hong. Both are quite large but on the weekends they can get very crowded. Their is no guarantee that you will get the Thai price by having a Thai driver license or work permit or speaking Thai. I have been to many parks and some it works and others it doesn't.

Here is a perfect place for you just outside of Packchong ....

There is area for setting up tents... Have been there a few years ago and saw some doing some barbecue on site.

There is also a large waterfall about 100 m from the camping area.

Also you can repel down the face of the waterfall or zip line through the trees.

A couple of the owners all have repealing experience... One in the Thai Army, others in civilian world

I did both and was a lot of fun
