Drivers lic expired on March 29th. Renew question.

Featured Replies

My Thai Drivers Licenses expired on March 29th. It was a one year and I got in Pattaya. I now live in Bkk. I hope to get a five year. Does it matter that it expired when renewing ? How long do I have to get my new licenses? Anything important I should know ?

Thanks guys !

Can't renew until it does expire.

Best do it soon, ideally in Patts if you can show you still live there.

Renewed mine a fortnight before they run out but that was in Udon.

Normally it is required to have expired before applying for the 5 year but seems some offices are 'flexible' while others follow the rules correctly. In your case you are fine regardless.

No, it doesn't matter if the licence has expired, providing it is not longer than one year. Once it has expired longer than a year, you must sit a 30 question multiple choice test. I think you have to do the colour / reaction tests and watch the video anyhow, which takes up the morning. 605 baht should get you 5 years this time.

Good luck

Actually he probably stated the correct information, but as usual there are exceptions. I let mine expire for more than a year, but put together the usual documents and went and got the five year without a written test, just the usual reaction, color blind tests, at Mo Chit in Bangkok.

I got my first Thai DP (derived from IDP) without any tests in Khon Kaen.

Strange but true (its not the norm).
