What day does the sonkran festivities start at the ghetto of KSR?

Featured Replies

Ive read on the WWW that the official start date of sonkran is sunday the 13th.

My question is.... if we are there on the Saturday, is Khao san road normal trading ie with the markets or does sonkran occur also on that saturday?

thanks

I'd reckon it being a weekend drunken backpackers will be getting revved up on KSR by Friday evening.

Plan on getting soaked.

Gonna get wet, wasted and dirty in the ghetto!

On my way off to Laos for the week

Loas is even better for Songkran if you haven't been before,

. Details Please...

Hooray..... I won't be in Thailand for songkrang this year.

I haven't been to Khao San on Songkran for a few years, but last time I went a few years ago, there was a limited start the day before. I went the day before and it was party mode with people on the side of the road with water guns, but it was not a full blown 10,000 person crowd like it is on the start day. The number of people shooting water wasn't huge, but you definitely couldn't walk down Khao San without getting wet. I actually thought that day was more fun than the real Songkran days, when the road was overcrowded with thousands of people.
