That may be true in some cases, but it is not cultural. Necessity plays a large part - especially in rural areas. Parents cannot find work near the family home so move away to work elsewhere. But, they do send money home when they can. Samui is full of mainland folk sending money back to their families. This is repeated all over Thailand. -
