sms747
Mrs bought a new phone and AIS transferred all her old numbers from the old sim to a new micro one. The problem is most of the names are now missing and they appear as just numers, where as before they appeared as names and then the number. So now she has no idea who the numbers relate to and there are about 150 of the numbers. Should she go back to AIS and try and get them to re do it, all the contacts are still on the old sim. Or is there an app to put the names back with the numbers? Or have has it all got to be re typed out again? Edited April 3, 2014 by sms747
sarotti
I assume she has the same number as before. She can then have the old SIM card cut to a micro SIM size and install in the new telephone.

That's what she has had done, hence the problem
RichCor
Note: Contacts can be stored on both or either the phone and the sim card. Some phones have utilities to transfer contents phone <==> sim. It could be the contact display setting is set for number only. If she tries to edit one of her contacts on the new phone, does the contact only contain the number -- or number and name? If she still has the old sim, put the sim into another phone. Do contacts list both names and numbers. If both then take the sim back to AIS and ask them to wipe the new sim and transfer again.

RichCor
she has no idea what that is who is this in response to? A "Cloud" backup is for a device that has an Internet connection and supports backing up phone data to an online account. If she has a <฿2000 nokia type then it won't do it. Most Android, Apple, Windows-Mobile, etc smart phones will. Other phones can be connected to a computer that can download/upload certain phone data. You never said what type of phone she has. sms747
Nokia X is there an app to do it?
RichCor
A Nokia X uses a modified version of Android OS. (and can be made to connect the the Google Play Store rather than the Nokia Store to download apps) If during the phone setup it asked you to connect to create or connect to an account then the phone can be set to synchronize (sync) some of the phone settings to that online account. You can then access that same information using a web browser to update the contact list. Later, if the phone ever needs to be replaced with another smartphone then all the contacts automatically are downloaded to the new phone when it has Internet Access and you use that same account info during setup. If the previous phone wasn't a smartphone, then the online account won't have the contact data backed up to it. In this case the data needs to be copied and moved. Note: Usually onlly the contacts in the PHONE MEMORY are sync'd with the online account. The sim contacts are ignored, though you can use the built-in phone utilities to copy them back and forth. Also, Smartphones, like the Nokia X, have a lot of options -- but can also cost a lot of money if you decide to utilize Internet DATA without picking a Data Package. If you are an AIS customer you have the option to turn Data Internet off via an USSD Code [ OFF = * 129 * 1 # ON = * 129 * 2 # ], otherwise you can turn it on/off within the phone settings as needed. Using them with only a WiFi Internet connection is a viable, and cheaper option. Hope that wasn't too confusing.

astral
Always a good idea to save your contacts on the phone and the SIM card Then rebuilding the list on the SIM is easy in a situation like this Lastly backup to your computer.
