Hi Everybody.

After sorting out some topics in the forum, it made me interested and i signed up!

I have a small inquiry to all of you. This is not a BIG question but it is really mind-boggling to me.

Here's the scenario:

I got already the Non-Immigrant Category B visa from the thai consulate in Penang. Now, could it be possible for me to travel to Medan, Indonesia just for few days before heading back to Thailand? Would the travel be no effect on the status of the Category B visa?

I hope there would be somebody that could help me with this question.

It sounds like you have a single-entry 90 day visa - and you already used it.

So - you need to get a re-entry permit - if you are not flying out of Don Muang, you probably need to get this at Immigration HQ in Bangkok. Bring your passport, one passport photo, and 1,000 baht.

Cheers!

Hi. This is Marvin from the Philippines.

I just emailed the Thai consulate at penang and he told me that there is no effect on the status of the category B visa. He just told me that i must use the visa before it expires. on my case, ill be travelling to indonesia for a few days before going back to bangkok so i guess it's just OK.

Thanks for the comment Indo-Siam. Correct me if I'm wrong, I will restate the situation:

I am currently in Penang and I have now the 90 days visa, single entry. Now, from Penang, I wish to go direct to Medan, Indonesia and stay there for few days before going back to Bangkok next week by airplane. With your reply, do i need to get a reentry permit even though i made a trip penang-medan direct?

Im still in penang and im currently looking for nice options.....

You do not have to immediately return to Thailand if you are now in Penang and could travel to another country prior to your return if that is the question. You will not be using your visa for that travel - only when you return to Thailand. The visa is valid until the date stamped on it.

//edit after reading your post above - you do not need a re-entry permit//

Hey

If you have not yet entered Thailand since receiving your Visa, you can go whereever you want before entering Thailand, but once you enter Thailand and have the Entry/Stay Stamp in your passport, you then need to have a re-entry stamp before leaving Thailand, if you wish to return on the same Visa.

Guys, Lopburi3 and Peter, thanks for your replies. You replied fast! I found your feedback very helpful. Now, I have the option to go from here to Medan before heading back to Thailand.

Also to Indo-Siam, Thank you so much for noticing my post first.

on the same subject, can one extend the non-b visa after expired date? do you get another 90days and do the same over and over again?

If you meet the qualifications of immigration you can extend any 90 day entry from a B visa regardless of the visa expiry date (which is a use before date to get the 90 day stay). But this is only done for an extension of one year. You could then extend again the following year if you still meet the conditions. If you do not meet the conditions at any time (loss of work permit) you would have one week to leave the country.
