BANGKOK: -- Unidentified assailants have shot at the vehicle of an anti-government activist who heckled Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on camera last December.

Ms. Patcharanan Leeluan told police in Phetchabun province that she has parked her car at a market in Wat Camp Son Temple, Khao Kho district, before 2 assailants arrived on a black pick-up truck at around 14.00 and used iron pipes to vandalise her car.

The suspects also fired a shot at the car before fleeing the scene on the pick-up truck. However, no injury was reported.

Ms. Patcharanan was widely praised by anti-government protesters after she managed to evade security cordon around Ms. Yingluck and blew whistle at her in protest during the Prime Minister's visit to Phetchabun on 25 December last year.

Ms. Yingluck responded by amiably offering to shake Ms. Patcharanan's hand for her effort, but the activist refused. For her "heroism", anti-government protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban presented her with a golden whistle at the rally on Ratchadamnoen Avenue in Bangkok.

Although police said it is too early to determine whether the attack on Ms. Patcharanan's car was politically motivated, other anti-government activists who had heckled former sister-in-law of Ms. Yingluck later experienced bomb attacks at their residence.

Phetchabun whistle-blower hurt in gun attack on car
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- A pickup truck carrying an anti-government protester - who blew a whistle at caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra when she visited Phetchabun several months ago - was hit with gunshots yesterday.

Patchanan Leeluan, 26, who blew the whistle when Yingluck visited Phetchabun's Khao Kho district in December, was slightly injured after her truck was hit many times.

There were bullet holes in the vehicle and glass was broken.

Patchanan, who suffered cuts to her waist from the broken glass, was given a gold whistle from the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban as a reward for harassing the PM.

Chaeng Wattana attack probed

Meanwhile, Nonthaburi police have met to discuss investigations into the shooting attack on members of the anti-government Students and People's Network for Thailand's Reform at Chaeng Wattana expressway.

Police commander Maj-General Thanayut Wuthicharasthamrong said investigators believed the weapons used were M-16s.

As police were yet to speak to victims, they examined closed-circuit TV footage and high-rise buildings in the area.

Whistle blower beaten up and her car smashed in Khao Khor

4-4-2014-9-40-35-PM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- A young woman who blew a whistle at caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra as she visited Khao Khor in Petchabun province a few months ago was today (Friday) beaten by two men one of whom pointed a pistol at her head threatening to shoot her.

The two men whose identities were not known also smashed the windshield of the car of the victim and fired a few shots at her car puncturing a few holes at the bonnet and a door and shattering one side windshield.

The victim, 26-year Ms Patchanun Leeluan, told Khao Khor police that she suspected the attack against her and her car was related to an incident a few months back when she blew a whistle at Ms Yingluck.

Since that incident, she said that she had been harassed constantly that she had to escape to Bangkok to seek refuge for her own safety. She said that she returned to Khao Khor only three days ago and today drove her car to sell some products in front of Wat Camp Sont in Khao Khor district.

She said that she was sitting behind the wheel of her car when out of a sudden two men showed up, smashed the front windshield of the car and fired shots at the car’s bonnet and door. She said one of them also hit her with a wooden stick.

Ms Patchanun said one of the two men put a pistol on her head threatening to shoot her but the other man stopped him and then both escaped. She told police that she didn’t know her assailants before but remembered their faces.

Ms Patchanun shot into public limelight for singlehandedly blowing whistle at the prime minister. She was later invited to take to the stage of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee and was given a gold whistle for her bravery by Suthep Thaugsuban.

Priceless! Another theory is that it's all the work of the dastardly PDRC to give the angelic UDD a bad name.

Well, play with fire and you will get burned.

This may have nothing to do with her demonstrating, she could be up to anything.

True. However given the circumstances and description the probability is very high that it's political and retribution for the whistle-blowing. Time will tell. If they don't catch them, most likely it is political.

Agree 100%

Most likely politically motivated.

She only has herself to blame though, being given an award for her actions and placed in the limelight.

Probably not the most upstanding citizen - but I am like everyone else here posting on this - non of us really know.

Not supporting any corrupt politicians in Thailand or anywhere else - it bores me senseless.

Take away the corruption in Thailand and only the birds, animals and plants remain.
