Popular Post Soutpeel
Recently, in South Africa, the wife of a Government Minister has been sentenced for drug smuggling. Government Ministers in South Africa receive quite a healthy stipend, plus perks. The lady in question was certainly not caught up in this vile trade because of her difficult circumstances, and was, seemingly, a serial offender. SA goverment ministers involved in crime....drug smuggling, gun running, suspects in rape charges, common day to day corruption, mis-approriation of public funds etc etc...welcome to the new SA....Viva ANC Viva... All a bit like Thailand... One suspects if the lady concerned was caught in Joberg trying to bring in 7kg of peruvian marching powder into SA, she would get a couple of months in jail and a slap on the wrist...

Popular Post allanos
All of the above, and more, my friend . . . As a footnote, the Government Minister's reputation remains unsullied. He was totally unaware of his wife's activities, even when she was sporting expensive jewellery, wearing designer clothes, and driving an expensive motor-car. Yes, indeed. Welcome to the new South Africa . . .

Mudcrab
If convicted and the Death Penalty is imposed, I trust it will be carried out as a warning to other scum-bags who deal in drugs that ruin the lives of children and families around the world. Dannyboy6
And yet despite these raids Suvarnabhumi generally doesn't x-ray passenger's luggage. Strange that, but in China, Vietnam and even Myanmar all bags are screened upon arrival in the country. If those countries can do it, Thailand can too. I'm sure that if all passenger's luggage was screened upon arrival at Suvarnabhumi, more drug smugglers would be caught. Interestingly, all luggage is screened when arriving at the land border post of Aranyaprathet in Sa Kaeo province (opposite Poipet in Cambodia) but this does not apply at any other Thai-Cambodian checkpoints or those with Laos or Myanmar. I don't recall any such facilities at the Malaysian borders either. . Sawanaket , Laos has one, not one in Vietiene, though

noodle
The real crime is that certain 'drugs' are illegal. Prohibition ensures that a few will gain wealth at the expense of the many.

Cat ji
No matter if she is guilty or not it still don't solve the long term problem, the mules being only carriers is sad enough! The ring leaders and drug bosses obviously hand pick these people because of their difficult circumstances and know they are easy dice, of course I know that they know what risks they are taking and I also realise the results and devastation the narcotics they smuggle successfully will have on the users they supply, but the authorities really need to concentrate on the real pushers and leaders of this awful trade and put them were they belong, in the Bangkok Hilton with no parole or early release! I really do feel sorry for the runners who must feel so desperate and hopeless that they choose this way for an easy way to feed their family and "buy" a better life...... So sad! ehh bleh-bleh-bleh i knew someone would come up with that rubbish. sheesh! You are...dreaming...? About them feeling so desperate and hopeless. Have you ever heard of STUPID or FOOLISH or ...like the mentality that thinks they will get money by playing at a casino. Have you ever known such people? i hAve. BOTTOM LINE: It is illegal, criminal, to smuggle narcotics. If you get caught, you get interrogated about who hired you to do it, then you go to jail. ok? get it?
Cat ji
How many boxes is that? 7kg is a LOT of anything. If she was carrying it for someone, would she not be suspious of a couple of chocolate boxes that weigh well more than normal? Exactly. Good luck to her with her bs story. Its bad enough that as South Africans we get the 3rd degree at the embassies and borders while getting our Visas and doing our runs, now there is one more nail in the coffin. oh dear. i didn't know that. (no surprise though.) Anyway, the sooner i get out, the better. Just have to live with that problem. Better than living with the people that cause the problem. MMarlow
So who advantages from this 'tip'. Perhaps someone with an inside connection who can get the coke freed on bail, or who earns a % amount on future sale value? Or perhaps not.

Perhaps someone with an inside connection who can get the coke freed on bail, or who earns a % amount on future sale value? More likely that it benefits the other mule on the same flight, in the queue behind her at customs, who was carrying the serious weight. Another one falling for that urban myth. Do you really think Customs authorities around the world haven't heard of that story too? If that ever actually happened they'd get the carrier with the large quantity because every time they get a tip about the type reported here today they'd simply search everyone else on that flight. kunnatee
"Did you pack your bag madam"......."yes"....."has anyone else given you any packages"...."no"......A long stay in Thailand awaits, but in a very different resort. I know desperation sometimes leads these people to do this, and sometimes it is pure greed, but they know the consequences of their actions. Som-Nom-Na Actually, many don't. In a book called China Underground, there's a chapter on a Nigerian coke dealer in Shanghai who is told by the writer of the risks if he gets caught. He appears very surprised and shocked at the idea that he could be executed for selling drugs. I'm also shocked, as should anyone who knows more about the subject than the selected lies and one-sided interpretations sold by the state and the media. surangw
if they had a real plan they would put a tracker in the package, follow it to the distribution point and make some real arrests but then again, maybe they don't want to know.
