Foreigners expected to flock to Hai Yai during Songkran festival

SONGKHLA, 7 April 2014 (NNT) — Tourists from Malaysia and Singapore have reportedly booked all hotel rooms in Hai Yai for the Songkran festival.

Reports have indicated that tourists, particularly Malaysians and Singaporeans, have already booked all the 13,000 thousand hotel rooms in Hat Yai, Songkhla province.

The cash circulation during the festive season is believed to be at least 500 million baht per day. The reason for such a hype and excitement in the area is due to increased confidence of safety from tourists visiting the area, albeit the prolonged political tensions and recessive economy in the region.

Mayor of Hat Yai, Mr. Prai Pattano, stated that the city has spent approximately 4.3 million baht, to organize the Songkran celebrations from April 11 - 13.

This year’s Songkran will be held until midnight — giving celebrators a chance of an absolute fulfilled day into the late hours of the night.
