Extending tourist visa

Featured Replies

I have a friend over from the UK, on a 60 day tourist visa. He wants to stay a bit longer. His visa says he has to leave by 18th April. Is the a maximum number of days you can apply for the extension? And, what would be the latest he can apply for it?

Thanks in advance for your sensible replies.

He can get a 30 day extension for a fee of 1,900 baht.

He will need to supply a passport size photo.

Apply a few days before his stay expires

He can apply for an extension of stay during the last couple of weeks of his current permission to stay.

The extension will cost 1900 baht and give a maximum of 30 additional days.

An air ticket showing a departure from Thailand during the extended period may have to be shown

Thanks guys.

The offices are going to be closed for most of next week. I think Friday 18th is the only day they are open, so could he do it Wednesday or Thursday this week?

He can go this week to avoid the crowds next week. The extension will be added to the end of the current permission to stay so no time will be lost!

They will reopen on Thursday the 17th.

You will not need a ticket out of the country to show.

There are two temporary offices open see: http://bangkok.immigration.go.th/intro1.html

I took my friend to Khon Kaen on Thursday, last week. What a difference from the Udon Thani office we found. In and out in 10 minutes. The officer who dealt with his extension was very polite and spoke in Thai with my wife while she completed the paperwork, etc.

She did say though, to go to Udon Thani office in future as the address he gave is mine, in Nong Bua Lamphu and they do not class it as their area. Which I thought a little strange. He's on a tourist visa, so we do a lot of traveling with him and used my address as a permanent contact address. I would have thought as a tourist they would expect you not to keep using the same office. But, TIT.

When you apply to extend a 60 day permit to stay from a tourist visa they will expect you to have an address on the TM7 application form within their area of responsibility. It can be the address for a hotel or other accommodations you are staying in. Some offices may even want some proof such as receipt from the hotel.
