My gf is from middle class family, highly educated and earns good money.

Its one of those awkward things when you meet an attractive girl that doesn't quite wear the nice / stylish clothes that you would like to see her in.

I've been subtle and have even purchased her new clothes but she continues to wear the 10 to 20 year old UOIC. I believe that control is the opposite to love and don't want to tell her what to do.

I suspect sometimes it might be just to wind me up but she continues to wear unfashionable clothing in my presence. If we were walking side by side in a Western country people would look at her with sympathy.... thinking that she buys her wardrobe from the local charity shop. Thats how bad it is sometimes.

Does anyone else have this problem. What is the solution?

Actually, you do want to control her and tell her what to do.

IMO you have already tried to control and dictate what your GF wears by doing what you say below quoted....

It seems to me by what you have written, that you met an attractive girl but it seems your not happy with what she wears, maybe you should have gone for a Yingluck look alike..

The solution is to accept her as she is.

Chances are she has her pet peeves about you as well.

People come with their imperfections.

Accept her for what she is including her wardrobe or find someone else

"she buys her wardrobe from the local charity shop." ... if you ever take your lady to a western country, most likely, that is what they will do ... and they find some great bargains and look smashing!

"What is the solution?" ... you accept her how she is and slowly, over time, you chip away at the issue, don't confront her with it, and the problem is resolved. Learn the Thai way of dealing with it.

Old clothes 'round this Farm end up being used as floor rags.

Grab the lot, tear them into shreds and use them to clean your motorcycle. Give her a hearty " hello darling" and carry on whistling when she sees you doing it.

Best you can do IMO is to let them go shopping on their own or with freinds and stay at home or go for a beer or two and when getting home and seeing the wife or GF, let her know that your happy with what she may have purchased....

I know that couples who play together stay together but I'd rather do that in bed or around the home or go for a nice meal somewhere than do it in a bloody shopping mall...

Why do so many guys on here prefix every post regarding their other half with this? Is it like some sort of inner need to qualify your relationship as genuine, or just short hand for saying your wife isnt an ex hooker?

TV is truely the online board of the high society, absolutely everyone here has married a a hiso princess. God knows what board all the farrang lads with Thai lasses I see on TG 910 go to, they`d sure feel well out of place here

Frankly, maybe he should feel a little luckier that he's dating a free-thinking, attractive, educated young woman in Thailand who eschews the cutesy-but-ubiquitous, homogenised image 90% of her sisters insist on portraying.

Mrs S spends an absolute fortune on clothes/shoes/hand bags and ends only every wearing half them...

and trust me you be happy she hasnt got your trasping around multiple clothes, spending hours looking at clothes, shoes and hand bags and generally p*ssing about, only to decide what she had seen 3 hours before is what she wants to buy.

Although we have a solution now, any malls she shops in must have a DYI / electronics department or a bar and I go off "tool" shopping or go for a beer and watch the passing totty..(which she dont like incidently)...

Are you meaning that you would prefer a gf/wife like the OP's wearing old Issan clothes with no sound interest in fashion? Hard to believe ;-)
