Retirement visa when receiving a salary not pension?

Featured Replies

Can anyone clarify whether a person can provide salary slips and/or government tax declarations as evidence of funds for a Retirement visa.

I can't see why this would be a problem given other income sources accepted as evidence but the concept of being in receipt of salary while "retired" might not rest well.

Situation is former work colleague over 50 that has enough paid leave to take some 18 months off work and wants to stay here for extended periods of 3 months followed by a actual retirement in LOS. Other visa options not as attractive, via visa runs and multiple applications, visits to immigration etc so Retirement option seems best. He can supply pay slips, employment contract, evidence of leave being granted by employer, tax declarations for previous years etc.

It would be whatever his Embassy accepts.

Most embassies will do a income letter with any proof of income. Some require no proof.

There are many people on retirement extensions and are working a rotation out side of the country.

I see no problem for him to do it.

Many thanks....both make sense....

He will be on three month rotations for years so this is good...lucky he is over 50 though

Its all about income pension or earned or combined.. Letter from your embassy all sorted.

Hi all. I am in a similar position, except I get my salary in Thailand. I have been working without a work permit for two years and my company has been paying for all my visa trips. Now they want me to get a retirement visa, as it's less hassle. I know I can get one through a company that does visas for a sum, but would prefer to do it myself.

Could I also get proof of income from my embassy and apply for a retirement visa?

Thanks.

There are no "retirement visas" but an extension of stay based on retirement can be applied for by those who meet the requirements.

I would imagine that most Embassies would be reluctant to endorse income derived from illegal activity.

"Working" is not usually permitted whilst on an extension based on retirement.

<deleted>? You seriously need to get a Non-B and a work permit. Proof of income is for overseas money, not Thai income.

You'll be swapping one illegal situation for another.

I have heard of people getting a work permit on retirement visa but highly irregular,

Thanks, I will speak to my employers and try to rectify the problem!

Gee I just looked at my visa and the Visa is stamped RETIREMENT. It is good for one year but I must appear at immigration every 30 days to confirm my residential address.

It really does not matter what the income source is, as long as your Embassy will give you a letter confirming your income. You do not even have to appear in person. You can swear an affidavit in front of a Thai lawyer and send this letter to the Embassy.

I don't think you have a stamp that says visa.. You have a stamp that says retirement near a stamp that says extension of stay.

You don't make reports every 30 days. You do a report of staying longer than 90 days every 90 days.

You can also have 800 000 Baht in a bank in Thailand and after two months get a letter and get your visa. Do not forget non immigrant O visa to enter the country.

Which "visa" can be obtained in Thailand ?

Op - reading your : "Other visa options not as attractive, via visa runs and multiple applications, visits to immigration etc so Retirement option seems best." - not sure what you mean by "visits to immigration", but you must know that even with an Extension-Based-on-Retirement, you will still have to report to your local Imm Office every 90 days.

A small clarification of your post is needed. The reports only need to be make if you remain in the country for 90 days or more. If you leave the country before 90 days the report is not required.

Yes, you can get a work permit with a "retirement" visa, also known as Non O visa [depending on what province you get it in]....however you will only be allowed the work permit for one year, whereas, after one year you must convert the "retirement visa" to a Non B....done it. If you all don't believe it....oh well....check with your provincial immigration officer.
